'Life-Threatening Storm Surge' Leaves Homes Inundated on Texas Coast

Southern areas of Texas were left flooded as storm Nicholas brought “life-threatening storm surges” on September 14, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Video posted by Heather Charron shows Jamaica Beach – a city on Galveston Island – inundated on the morning of September 14.

Galveston Bay could see a storm surge of three to five feet from Nicholas, the NHC said.

Hurricane Nicholas made landfall hours earlier bringing maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

More than half a million power outages were recorded in Texas during the storm, according to poweroutage.us.

The storm was set to bring heavy rainfall and life-threatening flooding to the upper Texas coast, Louisiana, southern Mississippi, and southern Alabama, the NHC said. Credit: Heather Charron via Storyful
