Lifeguard pay in Joplin increases as city looks to fill summer positions
JOPLIN, Mo. — The city of Joplin, once again, is in search of lifeguards for it pools.
Over the last few years, the city has had to cut back on hours of operation at some of its pools due to a lack of lifeguards. Some facilities haven’t opened at all.
This year, officials are starting the recruitment process earlier, and are offering more incentives than in years past.
“We are paying for the training now — paying for the swimsuits and any of the safety gear that is required with being a lifeguard — so keeping that out-of-pocket cost low,” said Dawn Jones, Recreation Coordinator for the city of Joplin.
Lifeguards for the city of Joplin will also make more this year: $13.92 an hour, which is close to a $2.00 an hour increase.
