Art trail festival to showcase local talent

A three-day arts event taking place in a West Yorkshire village over the bank holiday weekend will showcase the work of over 150 artists, organisers have said.

The Saltaire Arts Trail takes place between 4 and 6 May across the World Heritage Site of Saltaire in Bradford.

The "eclectic" artwork will be on display in the Victorian village's buildings and creative spaces, including the landmark Victoria Hall, according to organisers.

The event is open to all the family and is free, they added.

Many of the local artists will be on site and there will also be a pop-up market at Shipley College's Salt Building.

On Saturday and Sunday, a craft fair is due to take place where visitors can buy or commission items from more than 70 creatives.

Wares will include hand-crafted jewellery, ceramics, textiles and homeware.

For anyone who wanted to get involved, organisers also said there would be artist-led drop-in activities.

Sonja Kielty, interim chair of Saltaire Inspired, the arts charity organising the event, said: "We are looking forward to a busy weekend, jam-packed with art and creativity in and around Saltaire.

"As well as hosting selected artists from across the UK, we are showcasing a wealth of local talent."

Saltaire village was built by mill owner Titus Salt between 1851 and 1871 to give his workers better living conditions.

Also a politician, he had 11 children - all of whom have streets named after them in Saltaire.
