Lifting mask mandate too soon for some in Houston

In Houston, the Texas governor’s lifting of the mask mandate and capacity restrictions to guard against the spread of coronavirus is a step too soon for scientists and community leaders. (March 4)

PETER HOTEZ: So we know where this is going. We've already had 45,000 people lose their lives in the state of Texas. And now it's going to go up.

We know we can get ahead of this if we vaccinate. But we've lost a week already because of the power grid collapse. And we're still ranked at the bottom of states that have vaccinated its its population. I don't understand the basis of why now. The timing doesn't make any sense to me.

CESAR ESPINOSA: But let's go back to the 100% capacity. In many of these places are folks in Black and Brown communities are the ones that are cleaning these places, the ones that are bussing these places, servers, et cetera, et cetera. So we unfortunately foresee in the next couple of weeks a spike in cases.
