Light Fixture Swings as Powerful Earthquake Strikes Duzce

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck in Duzce, northwest Turkey, in the early hours of Wednesday, November 23, a government agency said, with tremors felt as far away as Istanbul and Izmir.

The Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said the earthquake struck the Gölyaka district of Düzce at 4.08am and at least 18 aftershocks occurred afterwards.

Turkey’s Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu said there had been no deaths reported as of Wednesday morning.

Shocks from the Duzce-centered earthquake were felt as far as Istanbul, Bolu, Sakarya, Ankara, Kocaeli, Kutahya, Bilecik, Bursa and Izmir, according to local news reports. This footage shows a light swinging in Izmir. Credit: @BKASIMOGLU via Storyful
