CANTON — Saturday, June 25 marked three years since Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy, Troy Chisum, lost his life in the line of duty.

To honor and remember him, Light the Night Blue in Memory of Deputy Troy Chisum, a day full of fun filled activities took place including a Fun Run followed by music, a bounce house, bags tournament, food and more at Lakeland Park.

Zechariah Cartledge from Running 4 Heroes, Inc., made the trip to Canton to run in honor of Deputy Chisum. Cartledge is the 13-year old founder of the non-profit organization. He travels throughout the country running in honor of fallen first responders. As of June 29, he’s run 162 miles.

Sophia, from Sophia Salutes First Responders, a 5-year old from Bellevue, attended the event to show her support and appreciation.

Though thunderstorms rumbled through Canton Saturday morning, sunny skies prevailed during late morning and afternoon.

“I would say that the weather impacted the first part of the morning. But once the sun came out, Troy's supporters showed their true colors and it turned out to be an amazing day to honor our hero,” said his wife, Amanda.

“I could not be happier with the turn out. And I cannot thank this community enough for continuously showing us their support and making sure that our hero is never forgotten.

A special thanks to Conrad and Lorna, Clay, Josh and Meg, Sarah, Bobby, Andrew, Jon and Katelyn, Natalie, Tony and Melanie, Grace, Steve, Tyler, Cody and Bobby, Ashley, Walt, all sponsors, everyone who donated, all businesses and individuals that contributed in any way to help make this day possible. I could not have done it without all you,” she added.

Proceeds went to purchasing a bench in Troy’s memory and the Deputy Troy Chisum EMS Scholarship Fund.
