Light snow during Mitchell's Christmas Parade of Lights?

Nov. 28—MITCHELL — Here comes a white Christmas.

The final day of November in Mitchell calls for light snow, Santa and a "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" parade on Main Street.

Mitchell Main Street and Beyond is hosting its annual Parade of Lights and Christmas at the Palace on Tuesday night. Christmas at the Palace runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the parade starts at about 7 p.m. There is no cost for either event.

Elizabeth Luczak, event manager for Mitchell Main Street and Beyond, said Monday there are 49 entries for the parade, plus the final float, which is Santa being pulled in a horse drawn wagon with bells chiming. Judges will give awards for multiple categories from the parade, which is themed "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." Winners of the event will be announced following the parade.

In addition to the holiday spirit starting Tuesday, the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is forecasting light snow in South Dakota. Mitchell is predicted to receive up to 2 inches of snow and breezy conditions on Tuesday, with gusts up to 35 mph possible.

"Bundle up for the wonderful South Dakota weather," Luczak said.
