Light snow remains in Craven County's weather forecast starting tonight

Craven County could see up to 1 inch of snow late Friday night into Saturday morning.

Light showers will begin this afternoon around 3 p.m. and is expected to switch over to snow after midnight, according to National Weather Services forecast.

"We don't have much change," said Scott Kennedy, NWS meteorologist. "It's still looking like not a whole lot of snow for this year. The better chances are going to be up north. We're looking at maybe a half an inch to an inch of snow. It'll start late tonight and it'll turn over from rain to snow."

Kennedy said by noon on Saturday any form of precipitation will stop, but it will be cold temperatures all day. Highs are expected to be in the 30s on tomorrow.

Saturday night lows will be around 15 or 16 degrees with wind gusts expected to reach as high as 17 mph.

The main concern for Craven County the road conditions on Saturday night. Friday night road hazards are less likely, according to National Weather Services.

"Tomorrow night will get very cold. We've got low temperatures in New Bern around 15 or 16 degrees," he said. "So tomorrow night, whatever is out there will definitely refreeze. There could be a black ice concern tomorrow night."
