Lightning’s Luke Schenn signs with Canucks
TAMPA — Lightning defenseman Luke Schenn appears to have found a bigger role on another roster.
Schenn, 31, has signed with the Canucks as a free agent, Vancouver general manager Jim Benning announced Wednesday, ending Schenn’s two-year tenure with the Lightning.
Schenn agreed to a two-year deal with an average annual value of $850,000, Benning said.
During his time with the Lightning, Schenn added to the team’s defense depth, often stepping in at a moment’s notice even on the biggest of stages.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion played in 38 games this past season, with goal goals and two assists. He also scored against the Islanders in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup semifinal series.
Schenn, a 13-year NHL veteran, didn’t draw a lot of attention on the ice, but he was reliable and no one could ever question his work ethic.
“No one’s going to babysit you to make sure that you’re ready to go,” Schenn said in late March after filling in for an injured Erik Cernak. ”It’s on you as a pro to be ready.”
