Lightning Strike Captured in Brandon as Severe Weather Hits Mississippi

Severe weather hit parts of Mississippi on April 19, a week after devastating storms and tornadoes left 14 dead in the state. Daniel Lamb was driving through Brandon when his dashcam captured this dramatic lightning strike.

Severe weather warnings were in place across the state, with tornadoes and flash floods reported.

“We have reports of two houses damaged, but there may be more than that,” James Smith, the Lamar County emergency management director, told local news reporters.

The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi, issued a hazardous weather outlook, warning that some thunderstorms could produce winds of 70 mph and tennis ball-sized hailstones. The storms were expected to continue into the early hours of Monday, April 20. Credit: Daniel Lamb via Storyful
