Lightning strike causes fire at Fairfield Township home

DOVER — Lightning caused a fire at a home at 2237 Dessecker Drive on Sunday afternoon, according to Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Don Frey.

He said crews were called to the home at 4:43 p.m. and arrived at 4:52 p.m. to find smoke and fire pouring from the attic at the south end of the house, where the lightning struck.

The occupants left the Fairfield Township home on their own, Frey said.

He said water and fire damage extended across about five trusses, and that there was a hole in the house at the site of the lightning strike.

Firefighters left the scene at 6:51 p.m.

Fairfield Township firefighters were assisted by others from Bolivar, Mineral City and Sherrodsville.

"It was a good interior attack, knocked it down quick," Frey said. "We saved a lot of property for a volunteer fire department."
