New lights at Florida state parks aim to help the environment

With new lights, Florida state parks are taking the next step toward environmental sustainability.

State park leaders, Florida State Parks Foundation and Duke Energy Florida, announced the installation of new, energy-efficient lighting Thursday.

Officials said the lights would save energy and money.

Crews will install the lights at five pilot parks, including Wekiwa Springs State Park and Blue Springs State Park, and then they will expand from there.

Park officials said the project would pay for itself in about a year–and–a half and save $300,000 in the next decade.
