It likely will snow Friday night and early Saturday in Peoria. But how much?

Snow is likely Friday night and early Saturday in Peoria. The bigger question is how much, and how much of a nuisance might it be.

Anywhere from 1 to 5 inches of snow might accumulate, according to the National Weather Service office in Lincoln.

East and north of Peoria, the odds of sticking snow decrease markedly. But significant snowfall and travel problems might be prevalent west of Peoria.

"Peoria is going to be right along the gradient," Nicole Batzek, a weather service meteorologist, said Thursday.

As of Thursday morning, the storm was expected to sweep southward from off the northwest coast of North America into the Central Plains states, according to Batzek.

The heart of the storm is expected to pass through central Iowa and northern Missouri. Peoria is to be at its eastern edge.

"Any shift in the track could bring higher amounts or lower amounts to a given location," Batzek said.

Flurries are expected to begin early Friday evening in Peoria, according to Batzek. After about 6 or 7 p.m., flurries might transition into moderate snow. The snowfall would last into the pre-dawn time frame Saturday.

Champaign might receive up to 2 inches of snow, and Chicago probably will receive virtually none, according to Batzek. But west-central Illinois is expected to bear the heaviest regional accumulation.

Macomb might receive 4 to 8 inches of snow. Galesburg might receive 3 to 7 inches, as might Havana.

"Thankfully the work week's over by then, but those who do travel during the overnight hours could (see) some hazardous conditions," Batzek said.

Slippery travel could linger into daylight Saturday morning.
