Lil Dicky’s New Song “Earth” Needs a Kids’ Version ASAP

Rapper and comedian Lil Dicky is back with another viral hit. This time he's not rapping about being jealous of his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend or swapping bodies with someone more famous. Instead, he's bringing awareness to and raising money for an important cause: climate change.
He released a new song "Earth" Friday just in time for Earth Day on April 22! It features a bunch of big stars—we’re talking Ariana Grande, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, Sia, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, and John Legend, just to name a few.
The video, which hit more than 3 million views in just a few hours, opens with scenes of recents devastating wildfires in California. It then leads into an animated clip featuring the artists as animals, singing or rapping their parts in different regions of the world.
An animated version of actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio also appears at the end of the clip in a reenactment of a famous Titanic scene. But instead of holding Rose, he’s seen holding the globe. “This might be my favorite song ever,” DiCaprio says.
Lil Dicky, who also launched an accompanying website for climate change, partnered with the actor’s Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to choose which nonprofits proceeds from the song would go to. Those include the Shark Conservation Fund, Solutions Project, the Global Greengrants Fund, the Quick Response Fund for Nature, and the Carbon Cycle Institute, DiCaprio shared on Twitter.
The song is catchy: You'll probably be singing the chorus, "We love the earth, it is our planet," by the time it ends. It's just a bit vulgar, so kids may need to cover their ears through much of it. But the message of the song is critical for them to hear.
Climate change is real. The effects on the environment are already clear with shrinking glaciers, rising sea levels, and intense heat waves. Things are only projected to get worse over the next century, according to NASA, mainly because of greenhouse gases produced by human activities. Think an ice-free Arctic, more intense hurricanes, more droughts and heat waves, and changes in precipitation.

About 59 percent of Americans said they already see “at least some effect of climate change where they live,” a recent Pew Research Center survey found. And 56 percent of U.S. adults “say protecting the environment should be a top priority for the president and Congress.” And we know that's been a notoriously difficult battle in recent times.
That's why it's crucial to get everyone involved in caring about our beautiful planet, including our youth. So it would be great if Lil Dicky could get a PG version of the song out there too, so children of all ages could get in on the viral sensation!
