Lil Durk's Lucrative Grand Theft Auto V Server Placed On Pause By Rockstar Games

Lil Durk’s gaming hustle has been put on pause.

The Suspension

The Chicago rapper’s popular Trenches roleplaying Grand Theft Auto V server has been shut down by Rockstar Games and its publisher Take-Two Interactive, HipHopDX reports.

In a statement, the gaming company revealed that it would be cracking down on the “misuse of Rockstar trademarks and IP, real-world brands, characters and music, including the sale of ‘loot boxes’ for real-world currency or its in-game equivalent.”

Lil Durk's Introduction Into The Gaming World

Previously, Lil Durk opened up about how his love for gaming was reignited during the pandemic.

“I started playing Call of Duty during quarantine and got addicted to it,” he said, according to the outlet. “I was never playing at all, but now I learned how to livestream on Twitch and all the good stuff. It’s already big, but [gaming] gonna be bigger than sports in a minute.”

Getting To The Money

Furthermore, he learned how lucrative the industry could be, thanks to his fellow rapper friends.

“When I started my gaming project with Crown So Heavy and [Lil] Bibby, they taught me how to play Call of Duty. They started coming up with ideas like, ‘You could get paid from it, you could do this, you could livestream.’ And I started getting into it more,” he said.

A Trip To The Trenches

Lil Durk launched his Trenches server in August, and the gameplay trailer went viral, thanks to the fact that it featured a city that mimicked Southside Chicago along with a mural of late rapper King Von.

A Hopeful Return

At this time, the Trenches team is hoping that the suspension, which began on Sunday (Nov. 20), is temporary.

“We’ve been asked to cease all operations of Trenches,” said the Trenches team in a statement, according to HipHopDX. “We have no choice but to comply with their demands as we intend to do right by Take-Two and Rockstar. We will be working with them to find an amicable solution to this problem.”
