Lili Reinhart Said Her Betty Cooper "Riverdale" Role Caused Some Hair Damage
Betty Cooper's ponytail is a signature part of the Riverdale universe. Actor Lili Reinhart is often spotted on the series rocking the character's iconic style, but as she explained to Allure, the required Riverdale beauty routine hasn't come without some struggle.
The newly announced CoverGirl told Allure that Betty's style requires spending some serious time in the styling chair. And while all is picture perfect once she hits the set, behind the scenes, she experienced damaged hair. "My hair is damaged as hell from being on my show and just from heat styling in general," she said. "So I try to take really good care of my hair."
As for how she practices TLC on her hair, Lili told Allure that she chooses styling products made to protect her hair from the heat. Her current favorites include products from Kérastase, Shu Uemera's Ultimate Reset Mask Treatment, and Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3. Additionally, the show's stylists also added extensions to help protect some of Lili's natural hair.
Lili went on to reveal that being Betty, especially when it comes to wearing her always perfect hairstyle, isn't as easy as it looks. "This ponytail causes me stress," she said. "It takes a long time [to style], longer than you'd think, and it's really annoying and very frustrating. It's just the fact that it's really hard to get it perfect... That's my biggest struggle. Being on camera, you can't have flyaways, so I'm looking at my head probably 70 times a day to make sure that my hair is in place. I hate that it's very high maintenance." Television star or not, we've definitely all had those styles that require a constant mirror check, and yeah, it's definitely not fun.
However, when it comes to future roles outside of the Riverdale universe, Lili told Allure that she already has a plan to keep her hair protected. "I kind of promised myself if I were offered a role where they said I need to be a redhead [or] I need to be a brunette that I would have to wear a wig because my hair has been through so much," she said.
