Team USA swimmer Lilly King explains how the matriarchs of her family instilled the strength and drive that she uses to be successful.
LILY KING: I'm Lily. It's exciting to be here. 2016 was my first National Team and I hadn't-- I just didn't really know what was going on. [LAUGHS] I was just kind of overwhelmed with all of it, so I'm excited to just kind of hanging out in the village, and see everything, and get to experience the games as more of a professional I would say.
My mom likes to joke around that I am fourth generation of very strong females, so [LAUGHS] I think it just stems from my family and how we act, and that we know we don't really care what other people think about us, and we're going to do what we set our minds to. And that's just kind of how I am. And it's shocking, I enjoy being myself. So it's just something I need to do and not exactly hide behind a wall. That's not me. So yeah, just easier to be myself and I've kind of always been like that, so might as well stick with it.
