Lima Fire Department honored for service

Oct. 27—LIMA — The Lima Fire Department men and women were honored for their response to a collision at the Mayor's Press Conference Wednesday afternoon. The nine-vehicle crash took place near Exit 125 on Interstate 75 on Sept. 4. The accident resulted in one fatality and several injuries.

The first responders were able to treat individuals on the scene and quickly transport others to the hospital that were injured. Mayor Sharetta Smith, Chief Andy Heffner, and Captain Lee Short thanked the firefighters for all they do.

"One retired firefighter said something I will never forget," said Chief Andy Heffner. "It was on an EMS call for a young lady and her child was sick. He said 'the emergency is over. We are here.' That is what they do. When they show up they relieve the burden of those who are injured."
