May 18—Baseball

Division I sectional

Lima Senior's Skyler Williams went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored and D'Ontre went 2 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBI and a run scored. Reece Waithe was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Dalton Hahn drove in two runs and Anthony Lutz scored twice.

The Spartans advance to the sectional final and travel to Perrysburg at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Shawnee 12, Columbus Grove 2

Shawnee pitchers Jarin Bertke and Caden Vermillion combined for a five inning, three hitter. Bertke tossed the first four innings, gave up two hits while striking out seven. Vermillion threw one inning and gave up one hit and struck out 2. Offensively, Logan Maxwell went 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and 4 RBI and Luke Cowan was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and two runs scored. Bertke, Derrick Lyons, Tyler Windau and Sage Ebling all drove in runs.

Lincolnview 4, Kalida 2

KALIDA — Lincolnview pitchers Collin Overholt and Landon Price combined on a five hitter. Overholt tossed the first five and one-third innings and surrendered four hits while fanning 7 and Price pitched the final one and two-third innings and struck out three. At the plate Overholt was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Dane Ebel, Carson Fox and Brandon Renner all drove in runs. For Kalida, Luke Erhart had a triple.

Miller City 15, Continental 3

CONTINENTAL — Miller City's T.J. Michel was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI and three runs scored and Warnimont was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI. Joe Deitering drove in 2 runs and Caleb Niece, Thomas Weis and Dillon Peck all drove in runs.

Indian Lake 4, Bath 3

Bath's R.J. Cortez was 1 for 3 with 2 $BI and Lex Boedicker was 2 for 3. Austin Williams was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored. For Indian Lake, Chase Baldwin was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Caleb Wurster was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Sidney 7, Minster 6

SIDNEY — Minster's Nathan Oldiges went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and Justin Nixon drove in a run.

Fort Loramie 7, New Bremen 6

FORT LORAMIE — New Bremen's Nick Alig was 1 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI and Zach Bertke was 2 for 4 for with 2 RBI and and a run scored.

All WBL teams named

Shawnee's Logan Maxwell was named Western Buckeye League player of the year and Defiance's Tom Held and Van Wert's Charlie Witten shared coach of the year honors.

Joining Maxwell on the first team were Lex Boedicker (Bath), Owen Treece (Van Wert), Bradyn Shaw (Defiance), Jayden Jerger (Defiance), Jarin Bertke (Shawnee), Dylan Trogdlon (St. Marys), Jaxon Buddelmeyer (Ottawa-Glandorf), Braeden Goulet (Wapakoneta) and Caden Vermillion (Shawnee).

Receving second team honors were Jacob Howard (Defiance), Austin Williams (Bath), Nate Maag (Ottawa-Glandorf), Hayes Burton (Elida), Jacob Place (Van Wert), Ty Kiehl (St. Marys), Ethan Rupert (Van Wert), Quinn Andrew (Celina), Carter Palapiano (Bath) and Sage Ebling (Shawnee).

Garnering third team accolades were Camden Roth (Defiance), Adam Tobin (St. Marys), Jacob Balbaugh (Ottawa-Glandorf), Luke Cowan (Shawnee), Brayden Lybarger (Elida), Turner Witten (Van Wert), Jarron Willoby (Kenton), Luke Wessell (Van Wert), Keaton Cooper (Shawnee), David Jimenez (Defiance).

Softball

Lima Central Catholic 22, Kalida 0

Lima Central Catholic's Abby Watkins pitched a five-inning, three-hit shutout while striking out one. At the plate, Jaylen Roehm went 3 for 3 with two grand slams, 10 RBI and four runs scored. Kennedy Parker was 2 for 3 with a home run, 3 RBI and two runs schored. Mary Kate Dee drove in two runs and scored three times and Kyla Badea, Sophia Luchini, Anna Wannemacher, Kristiena Zuppan and Zaria Keys all drove in runs.

Continental 4, Miller City 3

Continental's Alli Scott picked up the win after pitching a complete game, scattering seven hits and striking out six. At the plate Scott was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI and Catelyn Etter had a double and scored twice. Tygre Troyer also drove in a run. For Miller City, Aubrey Knueven was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and Aly Michel was 2 for 3.

All WBL teams named

Bath's Chandler Clark and Shawnee's Kaylee Grant shared Western Buckeye League player of the year honors and Shawnee's Britt Lauck was namd the coach of the year.

Joining Clark and Grant on the first team were Dylan Gribsby (Bath), Marrah Elston (Defiance), Erika Suever (Elida), Allie Hutchins Shawnee), Karsyn McGlothen (St. Marys), Kiley Tennant (St. Marys), Emilee Phillips (Van Wert), Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and Maddie Doseck (Wapakoneta).

Making the second team were Rachel Clark (Bath), Ruby Bolon (Bath), Payton Bertke (Celina) Ally Escamilla (Defiance), Cadence Miller (Elida), Jamsine Resinger (Kenton), Carmi Winegardner (Shawnee) Shalon McNeal (Shawnee), Carlee Young (Van Wert) and Carlie Schroeder (Wapakoneta).

On the third team were Abby Dakin (Bath), Sydney Lehman (Celina) Grayce Jones (Defiance), McKenzie Miller (Elida), Brynn Butler (Kenton), Kenzi Cupp (Ottawa-Glandorf), Kayla Bishop (Shawnee), Emma Birt (St. Marys), Lorynn German (Van Wert) and Taylor West (Wapakoneta).

College

Softball

ONU players honored

ADA — Senior Abby Davis (New Palestine, Ind.) and juniors Lauren Renner (Columbus/Hilliard Bradley) and Stacey Walters (Sunbury/Big Walnut) were named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Team.

The Polar Bears (24-18-1 overall) the OAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 5-3 victory over Muskingum on Sunday.

In five tournament games, Davis hit .400 with a team-best five runs scored and a .526 on-base percentage as a leadoff designated player.

Renner, a shortstop, hit a team-best .429 with 6 RBI, a .526 on-base percentage and a stolen base.

Walters pitched in all five games and went 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 30.0 innings in the circle.

Northern won the OAC Tournament title for the sixth time in school history and its second in the last three seasons and will play No. 12-ranked Salisbury (Md.) in the First Round at Marshall (Tex.) Regional on Friday.
