LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – – – Limestone County Schools held its last informational meeting Monday evening for parents and community members on its school re-zoning proposal.

Dozens of parents and community members gathered inside Tanner High School’s gymnasium to share their concerns about the redistricting proposal.

Those who spoke during the meeting called on the school board to find another way to address the county’s growing population.

District officials say five percent of its students will be affected if the school board votes ‘yes’ to the proposal.

“I think it’s a chance for opportunity, a bigger opportunity. Tanner has kind of been like the last one to receive the beneficial parts of the growth of Limestone County,” Limestone County resident Shad Malone said. “As far as schooling, remodeling, face lifts… we’ve always, kind of, been on the back burner. So, I think this is an opportunity to get new kids, new parents – new culture actually!”

The Limestone County Board of Education will be meeting at Creekside Elementary School. The school redistricting proposal the school system announced last month is on the agenda.
