Lin-Manuel Miranda and Dwyane Wade join celebrity Zoom game — but who didn’t show?

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, people stuck in isolation have been finding new and improved ways to stay in touch with a little help from modern technology.

Zoom, a video conferencing application, has soared in popularity the past few weeks and is a life saver for people in self-quarantine who want to reach out and see their loved ones.

Using Zoom, Katie Nolan, the host of “Always Late with Katie Nolan,” decided to blend two worlds: Tech and sports.

With the sports world on hiatus until further notice, most athletes and sports fans have been looking for outlets to satisfy their sports fix.

Enter the celebrity zoom game.

Over three hours (condensed to a video just under 10 minutes,) host Nolan and her buddies competed to see which of them could invite the most famous person they knew to their Zoom call. The end result was a magical TV experience for desperate sports fans during this coronavirus void.

A rush of celebrities — including Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, former Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade, former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez, and former MLB pitcher Brandon McCarthy — joined in.

Even non-sports stars clicked in, including “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and actor Jaleel White hopped on the call.

But the real question: Who didn’t show up?

Nolan and ESPN colleagues Mina Kimes, Pablo Torre, Mike Ryan, Mike Golic Jr., and Amin Elhassan were tasked with sending a text message to the most famous people they knew, asking them to join — no follow-up questions allowed. Whoever was able to nab the most celebrities would win the game.

After the segment aired, the participants revealed some of the stars who didn’t answer their text:

Like former NBA center Dikembe Mutombo.

U.S. Woman’s National Team icon Megan Rapinoe and teammate Kelley O’Hara.

The fact that Nolan couldn’t get of the women from the National Women’s Soccer League was a shock to most since she’s close friends with a majority of them.

People were also noticing that Kimes, a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan, wasn’t able to convince any of their players to join in on the fun.

Once Wade entered the picture, there were jokes flying about texting his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, and asking her to join. Much to everyone’s disappointment, she didn’t.

All in all, the game proved to be a massive success and the stars who did make special (and very random) guest appearances during those chaotic three hours were grateful for the distraction.

Someone needs to warn Kershaw in advance if there is a next round of the game, however.
