Lin-Manuel Miranda Showcases the Best of Puerto Rico in New Web Series

The Puerto Rican American actor, playwright, and composer has teamed up with Discover Puerto Rico to create a new, eight-episode series called “Discover Puerto Rico with Lin-Manuel Miranda” in which Miranda takes viewers on a tour of his favorite locations on the island, according to a statement by the tourism and travel site.

In the series, attractions like the Spanish colonial Old San Juan district, the Placita de Güisín mosaic (which commemorates Miranda’s paternal grandfather in Vega Alta), Isla Verde, and the island’s beautiful coffee farms. The series aims to show viewers that Puerto Rico is more than stunning beaches, but is also a hotbed of wonderful museums, public artwork, concert arenas, theaters, historic districts, artisanal local restaurants, and a thriving scene for the sustainability industry.

Miranda has championed Puerto Rico and its culture for his entire life, but has particularly been vocal about tourism since Hurricane Maria, saying once that “there’s nothing better for your soul than a trip to Puerto Rico.” He has partnered with many companies to help boost Puerto Rico’s economy, which partly relies on tourists, including NYC & Company, JetBlue, and has even auctioned tickets to the country to see him perform in his hit Broadway show, Hamilton.

“In addition to great beaches and tropical rainforests, Puerto Rico offers a remarkable fusion of world-class cultural, artistic and gastronomic experiences," said Miranda. “In this series, we sought to highlight some of those hidden treasures that make Puerto Rico an unparalleled destination with something for everyone.”

Each video is roughly five minutes and not only features a one-of-a-kind host, but also some amazing guests, including singer-songwriter Lucecita Benítez, actress Denise Quiñones, coffee expert José Alberto Atienza Nicolau, musician Luis Sanz, journalist Mariana Reyes, salsa singer Willito Otero, and urban artist PJ Sin Suela.
