RICHMOND, Ind. — Lincoln entered last week ranked third in Indiana Prep Volleyball’s Class 1A polls with an 11-1 record. Some teams slow down after getting recognition like that. It gets in the players’ heads. Not the Golden Eagles. They’ve swept both their opponents since that poll came out, playing like they still have something to prove. After all, third isn’t first.

Lincoln’s first match in the top three came Aug. 30 against Randolph Southern and ended in a 3-0 victory. Grace Sherwood led the offense with 14 kills, and Mia Cupp led the defense with 14 digs. Mallory Burns added 12 digs and seven service aces. Kaila Arthur had 35 assists.

Two days later, nothing changed. The Golden Eagles took a 3-0 win over Shenandoah on the road. This time, Cupp was all over the court with 16 kills and 13 digs. Burns had three aces, and Arthur had 30 assists.
