Linden to get $700K upgrade to water mains

LINDEN - New Jersey American Water will be installing about 700 feet of new water main in a section of the city. The work will take about three weeks.

The work will involve installing new 8-inch and 24-inch mains along Stiles Street from Lynn Court to West Linden Avenue, and along West Linden Avenue, from Stiles Street to Coolidge Street, according to the company.

The project also includes installing one fire hydrant and 20 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

New Jersey American Water also will replace any customer-owned service line that has been identified as lead or galvanized as part of a statewide initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.

This $700,000 investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in the community. The improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure across the state, the company said.

New Jersey American Water’s local contractor, Montana Construction, was scheduled to begin the work this week and finish within about three weeks, weather permitting. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some overnight work may be required to maintain project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed in spring 2024.
