Texas Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley says he's come to expect special performances in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout, the Red Raiders' last home meet of the regular season and their senior day.

He got one Saturday from Courtney Lindsey, even if Lindsey's not a senior.

The Tech junior tore down the straightaway at the Fuller Track Complex in a career-best and wind-legal 10.05 seconds to win the 100 meters. Lindsey is the second Tech sprinter this season to break 10.10 — Terrence Jones ran a 10.09 two weeks ago at a meet in Florida.

"Probably the highlight of the day for me was seeing him run 10.05 in, really, just no wind at all," Kittley said. "He really set his race up better than he's set up all year, so just a really good run for him."

The Red Raiders host the Big 12 championships May 13-15, and Lindsey will go into that meet trying to defend the conference title he won last year when he ran a 10.26 at the Big 12 outdoor in Manhattan, Kansas.

On Saturday, he also anchored the Tech men's 400-meter relay to a first-place finish in 39.12. Myles Webb, Jacolby Shelton and Ashton O'Conner ran the first three legs.

Big 12 rival Kansas State and a contingent of mostly smaller area schools joined the Red Raiders for the two-day meet, during which Tech honored its seniors on Saturday.

The Red Raiders' sprinters and jumpers enjoyed a big weekend. Rosemary Chukwuma swept the women's short sprints, running the 100 in 11.28 and the 200 in 22.78, both into negative wind. O'Conner won the men's 200 in 21.10, also into a headwind.

Chukwuma's time in the 200 broke the school record of 22.89 that Cierra White set at the 2013 Big 12 championships.

"Probably on the women's side, that would be the highlight was her 200," Kittley said.

In a stiff competition in the men's high jump, two-time NCAA champion Trey Culver went 7 feet, 5 1/4 inches to beat Tejaswin Shankar, a former NCAA champion from Kansas State, who topped out at 7-3 1/4. Culver, a Coronado and Tech graduate, now competes unattached.

"Trey looked great today," Kittley said. "I think he's going to go to a pro meet next week, but he looked like his old self today."

The Tech women also got first-place showings from Kayli Johnson in the hammer throw, Sidney Sapp in the high jump, Monae' Nichols in the long jump, Chloe Wall in the pole vault, Kyra Young in the 1,500 meters and Sylvia Schulz in the 400 hurdles.

Schulz's time of 57.51 was a personal record for the sophomore from Germany and a top-20 time in NCAA Division I this season.

Wall has cleared 14 feet seven times in 2022, including four of her past five meets during the outdoor season. She topped out Saturday at 14-1 1/4.

"It's unreal how good she's jumped, just week in, week out," Kittley said. "She's very consistent, so she'll fight for the Big 12 (title), I think."

The Tech men also got first-place finishes from Garrett Wade in the javelin, Jalen Seals in the long jump, Chris Welch in the triple jump, Samuel Ashley in the 5,000 meters and Vashaun Vascianna in the 110-meter hurdles.

Tech graduate student Gabriel Oladipo also took the discus and hammer throws on Friday.
