SOUTH BEND — The exhibit “A Line Is a Dot That Went for a Walk” opens April 27 and continues through June 3 in the Moreau Gallery at Saint Mary’s College.

The exhibit features the works of three Saint Mary’s alumnae: Maria Fontenelle, 2004; Marina Kozak, 2012; and Stephanie Stapleton, 2018.

An opening artists’ lecture takes place from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. April 27 in the Vander Vennet Theatre in the Student Center, followed by a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gallery.

After she graduated from Saint Mary’s, Fontenelle later earned a degree in communication design in Sydney, Australia, worked as a graphic designer in her native Brazil and earned a master’s degree in typeface design from Reading University, U.K., where her research focused on the history and evolution of the ampersand. She also produced a multi-script typeface based on historical references as part of her studies. Fontenelle now works as a font developer at Dalton Maag (London), from her home in Rio de Janeiro.

Kozak (SMC ’12) has worked in 2D and 3D mediums ranging from digital magazine covers to experiential events and music festivals. Based in Chicago, she currently is the art director of Pitchfork and pursues her personal work under the brand In Bocca Al Lupo.

Stapleton (SMC ’18) is a designer and illustrator living in Washington, D.C., where she is the manager of the No Kid Hungry campaign’s Print Creative and Illustration department. Her time at the nonprofit has included directing the visuals for multiple nationally-awarded campaigns and implementing a specialized brand illustration style.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or by appointment.

Admission is free.
