Line Of Duty's Adrian Dunbar says series 7 could be 'two 90-minute specials'

Line Of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has given another hint that season seven could be on the way - but warned fans not to expect a full series.

The BBC One police procedural written by Jed Mercurio has a huge following of fans who are keen to see the thriller about an anti-corruption unit and organised criminals who have infiltrated the force make another return.

Since the end of season six, Mercurio and the show's stars - Dunbar, Vicky McClure and Martin Compston - have been asked regularly whether there will be a season seven to look forward to.

Now, Dunbar has seemed to suggest that there will be, but that it could air as two 90-minute specials rather than a series of six episodes.

He told The Times: “There’s a big appetite for more Line Of Duty. It could be three or four episodes; I don’t think there’s going to be six, for some reason.

“It might be two 90 minutes. But it’s all entirely down to Jed what the storyline is going to be. It’s a big ask for him.”

He added: “It’s going to be really good. Maybe someone’s going to die. Someone’s going to be under threat.

“He doesn’t mind killing characters off. Maybe he’ll kill us all off. A terrible car crash when we’re rushing to the scene of a crime? We’ll have to leave it to him.”

The last episode to air unmasked DS Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) as the long-running villain and organised crime group boss H, a controversial reveal with fans.

In July, Compston prompted speculation by telling The Sun: “We sat down with Jed recently.

"We’ve always taken a year or two between series. This is no different.

“We won’t do it for the sake of it. We’ll do it if there’s something to tell.”
