On this episode: On the weekends of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the Fairlane Town Center parking lot played host to dozens of vendors as hundreds of people crowded in for a sense of community and a bite to eat ahead of the day's fast.

Playing host is just one of the ways the mall's general manager, Dan Fayad, says Fairlane has sought to reimagine itself — and lean into the community — amid the demise of malls across metro Detroit.

On this episode of the "On The Line" podcast, host Cary Junior II explores the future of malls like Fairlane with business reporter JC Reindl. It comes amid Fairlane's announced sale to a Dallas-owned real estate firm this week and the two look at how malls are tapping into events like the Ramadan Suhoor Festival and attractions like aquariums to stay relevant.

Junior, too, talks with Fayad about Fairlane's history and future, and Junior stops by the Ramadan Suhoor Festival himself to hear what attendees want for Dearborn's spaciouscenter.
