EASTERN HEIGHTS — A big third quarter by Linton was just a bit too much to overcome as the Miners held off Eastern Greene, 31-28, in the opening round of the Class 2A Eastern Greene girls' basketball sectional on Thursday.

The game was tied at 11 at halftime before Linton, 29-point winners in the regular season meeting, used a 16-6 run to pull ahead, 27-17. But the T-Birds (17-8) responded to get it within 29-28 late. But Bradie Chambers, who led the Miners with 16 points, made two free throws in the final minute.

Eastern Greene had the ball with a chance to tie with under three seconds left.

Chambers scored all four of Linton's points in the fourth. Sydney Jerrells added nine for the Miners (19-3), who will take on No. 1 North Knox (24-1), which surprisingly just got by a five-win Mitchell squad, 55-48, in the second game of the night.

Keylee Hudson had 14 points and Kenady Hudson six for Eastern, which was 10-of-13 at the line.

Alex McKinley had 19 points for North Knox in its win, while Mylea Sloane had 17 points, Brooklyn Peterson 15 and Jillian Bond 10 for the Bluejackets (5-18).
