Lipscomb Academy to play Alabama football powerhouse Thompson on ESPNU

A high school football state champion from Tennessee and one from Alabama will be featured on ESPNU on Aug. 27.

Lipscomb Academy, which is coached by Super Bowl winning quarterback Trent Dilfer, will play Thompson at 8 p.m. (CT) at Thompson High in Alabama.

The game will be part of the GEICO ESPN High School Football Kickoff, which is in its 13th season. ESPN announced its lineup for the TV games on Thursday.

Lipscomb Academy went 13-1 and won the TSSAA Division II Class AA state championship in 2021 while Thompson won its third straight Class 7A AHSAA state championship.

The two programs are regarded as one of the top teams if not best team in each state entering the 2022 season.

The game is one of four high school games aired on ESPN affiliates that day.
