Liquor board tentatively OK's license for Virginia Avenue pizzeria
You could soon have a beer with your pizza at American Pie Pizzeria.
The Virginia Avenue restaurant won conditional approval for a Class B Restaurant license following a hearing Wednesday before the Board of License Commissioners.
Also known as the liquor board, the panel gave unanimous approval for the license pending completion of crowd-control certification by members of the restaurant's staff.
The Halfway restaurant has been open for about a year, said owner Jorge Calderon, who told board members he formerly operated pizzerias in Hancock and Sharpsburg.
Board Chairman Robert Buczkowski noted that a restaurant with a liquor license had operated on the premises before American Pie opened.
Calderon plans to serve beer, wine and liquor once the license is issued, he told Herald-Mail Media.
The license is for on-site sales only.
