Lisa Marie Presley death – latest: Nicolas Cage ‘heartbroken’ by ‘devastating news’ of ex-wife’s passing

Tributes are pouring in after Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis Presley, died at the age of 54.

The musician died at a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a medical emergency at home, just two days after she attended the Golden Globes.

In a statement, the Presley family said: “Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie.

“They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

Presley was transported from her home in Calabasas, California, to hospital after paramedics performed CPR on her following a possible cardiac arrest, TMZ first reported.

Following in the footsteps of her father, Presley pursued a career in the music industry.

She released three albums: To Whom It May Concern (2003), Now What (2005), and Storm & Grace (2012).

In 2018, her new record Where No One Stands Alone featured 14 original performances recorded by Elvis including a reimagined duet, in which she sang alongside her father – who died at the age of 42 in 1977.

Linda Thompson, Elvis’s last major girlfriend after his divorce from Priscilla, is “devastated and shocked” by Lisa Marie Presley’s recent death.

Speaking to People, Thompson shared that she and Presley had remained “in touch, off and on for all these years – most recently by text”.

“In fact, the very last text to me was a simple ‘Love you Linda’ with a heart emoji,’” she added.

Elvis and Thompson met and started a relationship in 1972, a month before his divorce from Priscilla was finalised. The two dated for four years until Thompson eventually ended their relationship in 1976.

“Lisa Marie was so much like her daddy it was uncanny,” the songwriter and actor added.

“She had his deep, soulful eyes, his pouty lip, and his raucous, irreverent sense of humour. She was a beautiful contradiction like Elvis… complicated in her simplicity,” Thompson remembered. “She was brutally honest, straightforward, loving and loyal. I don’t think there was a phoney cell in her body. I believe she lived her life authentically.”

Thompson went on to marry Caitlyn Jenner in 1981. They later divorced in 1986. She then tied the knot with her second husband, Canadian musician David Foster, in 1991. Their marriage lasted for 14 years before they divorced in 2005.

Alden, the King’s former fiancée and final companion who found him dead in his bathroom in 1977, remembered how special she was to her father.

“It’s not always easy knowing all/what to say in moments sometimes but here goes,” she wrote on Facebook. “As many of us share with extreme saddened hearts today the passing of Elvis’s daughter, I wanted to reflect.

Alden concluded: “I truly wish we could have spoken later in life as I am sure she had many questions. May you rest in peace Lisa. You were loved and will be deeply missed.”
