DOVER ‒ The Tuscarawas Valley Farmers Market will kick off its 15th season from 3 to 7 p.m. June 7, at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds. The market will be held every Wednesday through Oct. 11 except during fair week, Sept. 18-24. The producers-only market comprises vendors from within 50 miles of the Dover/New Philadelphia area.

Each week, the market will feature live music by local musicians from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Kodachrome Babies, a sister duo, will be the featured band on opening day.

The market will hold special events throughout the season. The online calendar at www.tvffm.org/news-events has a schedule of food trucks, demonstrations, live music, community partners and special events. The schedule is subject to change.

The market participates in programs that help qualifying individuals with the cost of purchasing fresh produce at the market, including SNAP/Ohio Direction Card, Produce Perks, school lunch cards, Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program and WIC.

Horses to help deliver lessons on life and leadership

WAYNE TWP. ‒ Lew Sterrett will deliver the Sermon on the Mount at 6 p.m. June 13 at Camp Buckeye. He will use horses to demonstrate lessons for life and leadership. Visitos should bring lawn chairs. Barbecued pulled pork sandwiches will be available for a donation.

Fundraiser for candidate for Dover mayor

DOVER ‒ A fundraiser/meet the candidate event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. June 14 as Democrat Colby Byrom kicks off his campaign for Dover mayor. The event will be held at the home of Brian Hanner, 414 E. 14th St., Dover. Byrom will be there to meet people and answer questions.

Swiss steak dinner planned June 10 at Pike Grange

EAST SPARTA ‒ Pike Grange, 1421 Battlesburg Road SE, will hold a drive-thru Swiss steak dinner on June 10. The menu includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, rhubarb sauce, applesauce, bread and dessert. Meals will be served from 3 p.m. until sold out. Cost is $14.

Dover Twp. intersection closed for safety upgrade

DOVER TWP. ‒ The intersection of County Road 82 (Dover Zoar Road) and County Road 80 (Schneider's Crossing Road) will be closed to traffic from now through Sept. 1 for an intersection safety upgrade. The $664,000 project is designed to improve visibility at the intersection.

Tuscarawas County Beekeepers to meet Thursday

DOVER ‒ The Tuscarawas County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church Outreach Center, 208 N. Wooster Ave.. John Grafton, former Ohio State Beekeepers president, county inspector and fair judge, will present the program, "How to prepare entries of honey and other hive products for the county fair." There is parking around the building and on the street.

Conotton Union budget hearing Thursday

BOWERSTON − The Conotton Valley Union Local School Board of Education will hold a budget hearing for the 2024 budget of the Bowerston School District Public Library at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Bowerston School District Public Library Rocket Center Branch.

Chocolate Walk is Saturday in Dover

DOVER – The Downtown Dover Chocolate Walk will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets, $20, are on sale at The Emporium, 118 W. Third St. Proceeds benefit the Canal Town Book Festival. Tickets also are available online at www.doverlibrary.org. Ticket holders will get a passport, map and a bag and will receive a chocolate treat at 25 different downtown Sweet Stops.

An after party featuring live music from local band Basement Bromance will be held following the event at Hoodletown Brewery. Drive-through event June 14 for pets and people

DOVER ‒ The Tuscarawas County Health Department will host a pet preparedness event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 14 at its office at 897 East Iron Ave. Pet owners will receive a goody bag including an LED clip-on pet safety light, pet waste bag dispenser, hand sanitizer, pet/human cooling towel and emergency preparedness information while supplies last. Participants may enter to win gift certificates donated by We Luv Pets.

Donations for the Tuscarawas County Humane Society and the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound will be accepted. Items needed include dog and cat food, litter, and cleaning supplies. Donations may be dropped off at the health department lobby Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Donations are not required to participate in the drive-through or to enter to win a prize. Prize drawings will take place in early July.

Buckeye Career Center Adult Education Open House is Tuesday

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Buckeye Career Center will host an adult education open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at Buckeye Career Center for prospective adult students. The event will highlight full-time and part-time adult courses and the Adult Diploma Program .

The open house is open to recent high school graduates, adults interested in earning a GED or high school diploma, adults wanting to start a new career, or even adults hoping to learn additional skills or earn industry-recognized credentials. Admissions representatives will also be available to talk about the application process and review financial aid options with potential students. Those who attend the open house will have their $50 full-time program registration fee waived.
