List of holiday movies hitting the big screen in the Victor Valley

Cinemark Theatres has announced a line-up of popular holiday movies coming to the big screen after Thanksgiving, including "A Christmas Story" and "It’s a Wonderful Life."

In the Victor Valley, some of the limited engagement movies may run at Cinemark Victorville 16 in the Mall of Victor Valley and, or the Cinemark Jess Ranch in Apple Valley.

Please check the Cinemark app or website for movie locations, dates, and times.

And yes, most of these movies can be watched on TV, DVD, an online streaming service, or by dusting off your old VCR and VHS tapes. For some, there’s something special about watching a film together on a big screen while eating freshly popped popcorn.

Elf

Kicking off the holiday movie caravan on Nov. 24, is the 20th-anniversary release of the film "Elf."

The contemporary Christmas classic stars Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by Santa's elves.

Buddy leaves the North Pole and passes through the “seven levels of the Candy Cane forest” and “through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops” before arriving in New York City to meet his biological father.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Filmed in black-and-white, Frank Capra’s 1946 classic, "It’s a Wonderful Life," tells the story of building and loan banker George Bailey, played by the late Jimmy Stewart, who encounters a financial crisis on Christmas Eve.

After pondering his perceived failures, Bailey begins to believe that he’s worth more dead than alive. That’s when guardian angel Clarence is sent from Heaven to protect him. Clarence shows Bailey that the love and fellowship of others is what makes one’s life truly wonderful.

A Christmas Story

The folks at WarnerBros. described the 1983 film "A Christmas Story" like this: It's the final days before Christmas in early 1940s Cleveland, and 9-year-old Ralphie wants one thing from Santa Claus, more than anything else, a Red Ryder Carbine Action Air Rifle.

As he trudges through the snow to school, faces the neighborhood bully and visits a malevolent department store Santa Clause, Ralphie connives, conspires and campaigns for the most fabulous Christmas present ever in this heartwarming, hysterical and sweetly nostalgic holiday film.

Other holiday movies being shown at Cinemark:

  • Max Lucado’s Because of Bethlehem (2023)

  • Dr. Seuss The Grinch (2018)

  • Arthur Christmas (2011)

  • The Polar Express (2004)

  • Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

What is your favorite holiday movie? Is the 1988 movie Die Hard a Christmas movie? What about the 1983 film Trading Places?
