Apr. 30—Rick Lang, a Grammy-nominated New Hampshire songwriter, will perform his new musical tribute "Great Stone Face" at the New Hampshire State House on Wednesday at the invitation-only Old Man of the Mountain Remembrance Event.

Gov. Chris Sununu and Council will officially proclaim May 3 as "Old Man of the Mountain Day," in honor of the state's iconic rock formation, which collapsed 20 years ago.

The event will be open to the public online at oldmannh.org starting at 11 a.m.

Presented by the Museum of the White Mountains in Plymouth, the ceremony will include how the Old Man shaped the state's identity from its recorded discovery in the 19th century until today. The program features personal stories, poems from local students and a debut of Lang's 'Great Stone Face' music video.

Lang, a New Hampshire native who lives in Kingston, and his co-writer and friend, Evan Richert were inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story, "The Great Stone Face," published in 1850. Lang's songs have been recorded by renowned Bluegrass, Jazz and Southern Gospel artists. Lang has over 100 song cuts to his credit and has released seven studio albums.
