Listen Now! Can the Dolphins live up to the hype, or will the season end in disappointment?

The last time the Miami Dolphins won a playoff game was Dec. 30, 2000.

Bonus points if you know who they defeated.

Give up?

It was the Peyton Manning-led Indianapolis Colts in a wild card game.

They lost the following week to the Oakland Raiders 12-6 and have not tasted playoff victory since.

To put that into perspective, Tom Brady entered his first NFL game on Nov. 23, 2000, just five weeks prior to the Dolphins’ last playoff win.

Since then, Brady has led two teams to 35 playoff victories and seven Super Bowl titles.

If you’re wondering, the Dolphins have 20 playoff wins since their inception in 1966, with two Super Bowl titles — in 1972 and 73.

The Dolphins haven’t even been to the playoffs since Jan. 2017 when they lost in the wild card round to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

If fans are a bit skeptical of the 2022 Dolphins, even after the team may have won the NFL’s offseason, it’s certainly understandable.

A slew of new faces led by Tyreek Hill have thrust the Dolphins into national prominence, but is this team good enough to live up to the hype, or will it be another season ending in disappointment for fans of the Fighting Phins?

And how will the NFL's recent disciplinary action over Dolphins tampering hurt this team going forward.

To help decipher fact from fiction, longtime Dolphins reporter Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post joins “The *State* of Florida Sports Podcast,” powered by the USA TODAY Network.

"It's certainly damaging to the Dolphins to lose a first round draft pick in the 2023 Draft because they were one of a small handful of teams that had two first round draft picks," Schad says on the podcast. "If you look at like the ESPN mock draft for 2023, they had the Dolphins selecting a running back from Texas with the 11th pick."

Aside from his recent reporting, Joe spent the summer researching this team like no other as he and colleague Hal Habib came up with their list of the 25 most important Miami Dolphins players for 2022.

If you missed the series, you can hear how Joe and Hal came to their decisions, why they chose who they did at No. 1, and why quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was so low on the list.

If you'd like to read all of these profiles, go to palmbeachpost.com/sports/dolphins.

The Dolphins have one of the best receiver tandems in the league with Hill and Jaylen Waddle, a revamped backfield with Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert and a beast at tight end in Mike Gesicki.

If Tagovailoa has the protection he needs to deliver the ball, this might be the year the Dolphins break the playoff drought.

Joe will tell us what the Dolphins have done to fix their historically bad offensive line from 2021.

And you’ll hear us discuss some of the lines on players and if it’s a good choice to take the over or the under on these prop bets.
