GAYLORD — The Birth to Five Early Literacy Network-Northeast is bringing musician Jim Gill to Northern Michigan for concerts and introducing Krayon Kiosks which have been placed at the Alpena County, Hillman and Otsego County libraries.

The Birth to Five Early Literacy Network-Northeast focuses on the importance of early literacy before school. The Krayon Kiosks are iPad stations with apps for not only books, but also for children to learn math, science, art, spelling, and problem solving.

Jim Gill is a musician and author known for celebrating active play. In concert, Gill strums energizing rhythms on his banjo while everyone sings, claps dances and spins along to his silly and inspiring musical games. Gill will have a concert from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Otsego County Library in Gaylord.

The Birth to Five Early Literacy Network Hub is grant funded by the Michigan Department of Education. The Birth to Five Early Literacy Network partners include Great Start Collaborative, Alpena-Alcona-Montmorency, Great Start Collaborative, Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle, Great Start Collaborative, Crawford-Ogemaw-Oscoda- Roscommon-Iosco, Great Start to Quality Northeast Resource Center, and the Alpena County Library. The goal is to provide families/caregivers easy access to resources related to early literacy to help children prepare for kindergarten.
