This is the adorable moment the pressure of performing got too much for a girl in her first Christmas play – and she fell asleep in front of the audience.

Little Lily Rose Price, 3, was giddy with excitement at playing an angel in her school nativity and had told all her friends and family about her acting debut.

However, when the moment finally arrived it all became a bit exhausting for Lily, who decided that hay bale in the manger on stage was the perfect place to rest her head.

Within minutes of the play starting at Mill Hill Nursery School in Sunderland, Lily slid off the hay bale and she remained asleep on stage, with her halo over eyes, until the nativity came to an end.

Lily's mum, Rebecca Price, had taken the day off work to watch her daughter's first Christmas play – and she found her unexpectedly sleepy star turn unforgettable.

She said: "It's something to remember, that's for sure.

“Out of the whole class, everyone was participating and having fun while Lily was fast asleep on the floor.

"About five minutes in maximum she had slid off the hay bale onto the floor and her halo fell over her eyes and she literally just lay on the floor fast asleep for the rest of the nativity play.

"We thought it was absolutely hilarious and so did everyone else, as you can imagine. It's definitely one for the 18th or 21st birthday party.”

Ms Price said Lily eventually woke up as the play came to an end and parents started clapping and cheering for the children.

Lily, who was allowed to go home after the performance to catch up on her sleep, has also found the whole thing hilarious and is calling herself a “silly narna”.

Ms Price added: "When being an angel in the school nativity play is just too much you obviously need to just drop off to sleep and take a little rest from it all."
