From Little Mermaid to Meridian Music Shed: Things to do this weekend in the Rockford-area
ROCKFORD — The second weekend in June is filled with family friendly indoor and outdoor activities in the area this weekend including a nature walk, an outdoor movie and a bike tour. There's even a special event planned for man's best friend.
ARTSY Arts & Crafts Exhibit
What: ARTSY is a free admission, one-day arts and crafts exhibit supporting local artisans and crafters in our community. The ARTSY Arts & Crafts Exhibit features creative and talented makers, live music, snack food and more.
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

The Little Mermaid
What: Watch as the Disney classic comes to life on stage telling the story of Ariel, the mermaid princess from the sea who falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with a sea witch to become human and be with him.
When: Shows are 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday. A second set of shows will be July 13 through July 17.

Family Creek Walk
What: Here’s an opportunity to explore parts of Severson Dells that few people get to encounter. Get your feet wet while walking through Hall Creek and along the towering cliff faces of the Dells.
When: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday
Where: Severson Dells Nature Center, 8786 Montague Road, Rockford

An Evening of Music with Peter Mulvey
What: A songwriter with 19 records and thousands of live performances including opening for Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris and Chuck Profit on NPR. The Meridian Music Shed is a house concert series in a shed, an intimate, listening-room-type experience. Bring your own chair.
When: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday

Norwegian Artist Lofts Open House
What: Attend an open house party at the Norwegian Artist Lofts is hosted by Moon Lab Rockford, Three Ravens Studio and Calm Yoga Studio, a collective of small, independent businesses located just above The Norwegian Restaurant in Rockford's North End neighborhood. Special guests include local makers and artists.
When: 5 to 9 p.m. Friday

River District Bike Tour
What: This tour of Rockford's historic industrial sites and the latest redevelopment efforts, includes stops on Furniture Row, Barber Colman, Mott Brothers, the Water Power District, Nelson Knitting, Cedar Street Redevelopment, Rockford Water Dept., and JL Case (existing City Yards).
When: Saturday 8 to 10:15 a.m.

Dog’s Day Out Presented by Meyer’s Tails Up Farm
