Towards the end of last year, singer Jesy Nelson announced that she'd be permanently stepping away from Little Mix, explaining that being in the spotlight and in the group had begun to take a toll on her mental health. In an emotional Instagram post, she shared, "I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard" and in response, Little Mix - now a trio - issued their own statement saying they "love [Jesy] very much" and are "fully supportive" of her.

Now, the girl group have opened up about their future as a three-piece in a candid new interview with Glamour. While they respectfully didn't comment directly on Jesy's choice to leave, band member Jade Thirlwall did describe this next chapter for them as somewhat of a "new dawn for Little Mix". She also added that due to lockdown, she, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards have spent more time apart than they usually would, offering up space to reassess their personal goals.

"I’m not saying that we're co-dependent but we do heavily rely on each other, so it's been healthy to take a step back and think, 'What do I want?'," Jade explained. "As we come together and work this year, we’ll have an even better and healthier relationship with that perspective. This time’s taught me that I am still figuring out who I am, too."

She also spoke honestly about using the enforced break due to COVID-19 to get to know herself better, "I used to get scared at that thought, but now I’ve stopped punishing myself for not knowing [who I am]. It's beautiful that we’re still a group, but we want to help push each other to do our own thing, too. It's like a new dawn of Little Mix."

Leigh-Anne shared how important sisterhood is (and has been) too, while reflecting on how far Little Mix have come since winning The X Factor back in 2011. "Our sense of sisterhood is better for [having had] sh*t times together over the years, or if we’ve got on each other’s nerves, because it’s never been an option to not be together and we’ve always known that we are sisters."

We can't wait to see what's next for the girls (and for Jesy, who recently dropped a few major hints that she's working on some solo material).
