Little River’s Greg Hembree announces Tuesday his election plans for SC senate

Republican state senator Greg Hembree announced Tuesday that he is running for re-election, according to a press release from his office.

The Little River senator was first elected into the state senate in 2012, representing the 28th district. The 28th district is located within Horry and Dillon counties and includes North Myrtle Beach, Loris and Lake View.

As chairman of the Senate Education Committee, and member of the Senate Finance Committee, Hembree said in the release that he sponsored and passed legislation to enhance accountability measures for public schools and school districts, increased starting teacher pay by over 40% and worked to pass the largest tax cut in state history, which included the elimination of income tax for retired military and veterans.

Looking ahead, Hembree wants to continue working on second amendment rights and flooding.

Before running for state senate in 2012, Hembree worked as the North Myrtle Beach city attorney and as the 15th circuit solicitor for Horry and Georgetown counties.
