LIV Golf announces three new venues in United States for 2023 season

LIV Golf will add at least three new venues in the United States to its expanded schedule in 2023.

The series, which is being rebranded as the LIV Golf League, announced new events at the Gallery Golf Club in Tucson, Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa and The Greenbrier in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia.

The event in Tucson is March 17-19 and will kick off the league's U.S. schedule. LIV will be in Tulsa May 12-14 and West Virginia Aug. 4-6.

"These championship courses will contribute to the transformative season ahead for players, fans and the game of golf," CEO and Commissioner Greg Norman said in a statement.

The controversial series financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is expanding from eight events in its inaugural season of 2022 to 14 in 2023. Prize money will increase from $255 million to $405 million.

Already announced are tournaments in Mexico (Feb. 24-26), Australia (April 21-23), Singapore (April 28-30) and Spain (June 30-July 2).

LIV Golf Mayakoba at the El Camaleon Golf Club in Mexico will open the season. The course had been home to the PGA Tour's World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba since 2007. The tournament will be up against the Honda Classic, which is scheduled for Feb. 23-26 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

The U.S. schedule will increase by at least four events events. LIV also is expected to return to Trump National Bedminster and Trump National Doral and possibly Boston and Chicago.

Donald Trump said last month that Trump National Washington, D.C., will host a LIV event next season.

LIV will continue to showcase team and individual play and culminate with the crowning of the season-long team champion. Trump National Doral is expected to once again host the season finale.

The 2022 team title was won by 4 Aces, which is captained by Jupiter's Dustin Johnson.

The season will run from February to October and will not compete with the major championships, international team events or PGA Tour heritage events like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Memorial hosted by Jack Nicklaus.
