No. 1 Hoban rolls; North wins first game since 2019: Akron high school football scores

The dust has cleared, the rust is off, Week 1 is in the books. Opening-game jitters turned to dogged determination in Week 2.

Two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum came up with big wins Friday night.

No. 1 Archbishop Hoban rolled to a 47-14 win over Erie Cathedral Prep and North beat Wickliffe 8-7 for its first win since the 2019 season.

Firestone traveled to Copley, where both teams were in search of victory No. 1. It was Copley getting the win 49-26.

Two of Akron's top-ranked teams, No. 10 Barberton and No. 4 Stow, squared off and Barberton prevailed 20-0.

Green wins

After falling behind 41-40, Robby Klockner finds Baglia for a touchdown for the third time and a 2-point conversion makes it 48-41 Bulldogs with 10 minutes to go. The Bulldogs add a field goal and win 51-41.

North ends long losing streak

Vikings defeat Wickliffe 8-7 for first win since 2019.

Green takes the lead

A 3-yard touchdown run by Antonio Martin gives the Bulldogs a 40-34 lead over North Olmsted late in the third quarter.

Davis Nye interception return extends Wadsworth's lead

After Wooster cut Wadsworth's 28-7 halftime lead to 28-14 and then forced a turnover, the Grizzlies got a big play from Davis Nye. Nye's interception return for a TD extends Wadsworth's lead to 35-14 late in the third quarter.

JacQai Long extends Hoban's lead

Quarterback JacQai Long scores on a 14-yard run to give the Knights at 41-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Nordonia in dogfight with Berea-Midpark

The Knights are in a back-and-forth battle and trail 28-26 with five minutes to go in third quarter.

Norton comfortably ahead of Garfield

The Panthers have powered their way to a 21-0 lead over the Rams halfway through the third quarter.

Walsh Jesuit falls behind by two touchdowns

Erie McDowell closed the first half with a flurry and leads Walsh Jesuit 42-28.

Third touchdown for Lamar Sperling leads Hoban

Lamar Sperling has scored three touchdowns, to go with four in the first week, and the Knights lead Erie Cathedral Prep 35-14

Green rallies to tie score

Trailing by 13, the Bulldogs score twice, the second on a pass from Robby Klockner to Antonio Martin but the extra point fails and it's 27-27 late in first half.

Wadsworth trouncing Wooster

The Grizzlies lead 28-7 at halftime.

Lukas Stiles powering Highland

Running back Lukas Stiles has three touchdowns and the Hornets lead 27-0.

Erie McDowell, Walsh Jesuit trading scores

The Warriors score two touchdowns to take a 28-21 lead but McDowell ties the score with a touchdown midway through second quarter.

Kyle Snider show for CVCA at Kent Roosevelt

Senior running back Kyle Snider has scored four touchdowns and the Royals lead the Rough Riders 28-0 midway through the second quarter.

Green trails North Olmsted

Green and North Olmsted in a shootout with Bulldogs trailing 21-14 late in first quarter.

Hoban adds on

Quarterback JacQai Long threw his second touchdown pass, this one to Jayvian Crable, to give the Knights a 28-7 lead over Erie Cathedral Prep.

Tallmadge blasting Ellet

The Blue Devils raced to a 24-0 lead and, after Ellet cut it to 24-6, scored again to make it 31-6. Tallmadge heading for a possible running clock in the second half. The Blue Devils extended their lead to 45-6 at the half.

Warren Harding ahead of Buchtel

The Raiders turned a 6-0 lead into 14-0 with a touchdown and a 2-point conversion at halftime in Warren.

Copley extends lead over Firestone

After Firestone cut its deficit to 21-12, Copley answers with a touchdown to make it 28-12 in the second quarter. Copley adds another touchdown and leads 35-12 at halftime.

Dover blanking East

The Dragons are having a tough time getting anything going on offense and the Tornadoes score a touchdown to take a 14-0 lead late in the first half. East's deficit has grown to 21-0.

Barberton pulling away from Stow

After scoring a touchdown to take a 10-0, the Magics return an interception for a touchdown and lead the Bulldogs 17-0. A scoreless third quarter and the Magics still lead 17-0 at Stow.

That guy Lamar Sperling again

After the Knights took the lead following a blocked punt, senior running back Lamar Sperling cashed in on a TD run and Hoban leads 21-7 after the first quarter.

Explorers rolling

Hudson is making quick work of Euclid. The Explorers score three first-quarter touchdowns and lead 21-0.

Green in battle with North Olmstead

Quarterback Robby Klockner has two touchdown passes and the Bullodgs are tied 14-14 with North Olmsted.

Walsh Jesuit gets even with Erie McDowell

Trailing 7-0, the Warriors answered with a 5-yard touchdown run to tie the score midway through the first quarter in Erie.

Big plays propel Copley to lead over Firestone

After a 41-yard touchdown run by Copley quarterback DaOne Owens, Firestone bounced back to make it 7-6 but Copley's Luke Brenner returned the kickoff 81 yards for a TD and a 14-6 lead in the first quarter.

Tallmadge takes control early against Ellet

The Blue Devils picked up where they left off last week, utilizing a quick-strike offense to take a 14-0 lead over visiting Ellet.

Cathedral Prep bounces back against Hoban

On the ensuing drive after Hoban took a 7-0 lead, Erie Cathedral Prep capped a scoring drive with a 15-yard TD pass and it's 7-7 at Dowed Field,

Barberton gets a leg up on Stow

The Magics took the opening kickoff and finished with a 36-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead over the host Bulldogs.

Quick strike for Hoban

The Knights score first on a 25-yard pass from JacQai Long to Parker Falkenstein and lead the Ramblers 7-0 with 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.
