Replay: Austin-area high school football kicks off Week 4 games Friday

Week four of Austin-area high school games ramps up Friday as undefeated rivals Westwood and Round Rock clash. The Warriors are led by two-way lineman Jack Ziebell. Another big game on the slate is undefeated Stony Point and the Tigers' dynamic duo versus Vandegrift, led by quarterback Brayden Buchanan. Liberty Hill's slot-T offense matches up with high-flying Rouse. New Tech, fueled by RB Andre Spence II's more than 100 yards rushing a game, can move to an unprecedented 4-0 with a win over San Antonio YMLA.

Taylor Comes From Behind to Slay Tigers

Down 28-27 in the 4th quarter, Taylor rallied to dump Smithville 40-28 to up its season record to 3-1.

Johnson Rolls to First Win

Buda Johnson rolled Del Valle 49-22 for its initial 6A win while Burnet rolled Giddings 28-7. Lago Vista cruised past La Grange 36-2.

Bowie Hangs On For Win

Bowie has hung on to nip Anderson 27-24 and the Dawgs are sitting at the top of the 26-6A standings with Lake Travis.

The Dawgs recovered an onside kick with just over 3 minutes remaining and now Bowie will return to Burger Stadium to tackle unbeaten Dripping Springs next Friday. The Tigers mauled Austin High in their 6A district opener 77-0.

In other action, Hutto edged Judson 26-23 while Seguin spilled Lehman 39-7. Manor New Tech went down to SA YMLA 45-30.

Trojans Hanging Tough

Fred Dale's second TD pass of the second half has brought Anderson within 3 as Bowie leads the Trojans 27-14 late in the 4th quarter.

Anderson's onside kick is unsuccessful and the Dawgs take over on their own 45.

Burnet is rolling past Giddings 28-7 in the 4th quarter.

LASA Notches First-Ever Victory

For the first time in program history, LASA is victorious as they crushed Eastside 40-8.

In other action, Pflugerville hanks on to down Bastrop 42-35, while Lockhart sees unbeaten season tarnished as then fell to SA Davenport 62-42.

Dripping Springs had no issues with Austin High as the Tigers mauled the Maroons 77-0. Kerville Tivy edged Marble Falls 28-21. Lampasas bested Connally 44-13.

Area Heavyweights Move to 3-1

Both Vandegrift and Liberty Hill moved to 3-1 for the season as the Vipers knocked off previously unbeaten Stony Point 41-13,

in a 5A Division 2 battle, Liberty Hill ran past Rouse 49-21.

Bowie Driving to End the 3rd

Clinging to a 20-17 lead, Bowie has driven to the Anderson 35 at the start of the 4th quarter. The Dawgs are facing a 4th and 1 from the Trojan 26..

First Finals Rolling In

Round Rock has knocked Westwood out from the unbeaten ranks as the Dragons pasted the Warriors 52-7 at Dragon Stadium. Also it looks like Lockhart will suffer its first loss as the Lions are down 55-35 to SA Davenport with 5:14 remaining.

Bowie Doubling Up Anderson; Trojans Responds

Conner Kenyon's short TD pass to Carmine Elisarraraz has allowed Bowie to up its lead to 20-10 over Anderson at House Park in the 2nd district game for both school.

Anderson's Ed Smaill quickly responds by taking a long TD pass from Fred Dale with 5:04 left in the 3rd.

Bears Rallying in 2nd Half

In an entertaining game, Bastrop has rallied from 3 scores down to pull within 6 of Pflugerville, 34-28 at The Pfield.

Julius Baynard's 2nd TD catch from Seth Mouser has given him 194 yards on 6 grabs late in the 3rd quarter.

Wimberley - Fredericksburg to Meet on Saturday

Per KVUE's Jeff Jones, both coaches agreed to have volunteers ref the game, but according to Colton McWilliams, the plan was nixed, "However after contacting the UIL, the plan was shut down due to a requirement that certified TASO referees are needed to a a legal varsity football game The plan was shifted to move the game to Saturday morning at 10:00 am from Texan Stadium."

Dripping Springs is opening its District 26-6A debut a memorable one as the Tigers have raced out to a 56-0 halftime lead over Austin High. It looks like the Tigers will take a 3-0 record into their game next week at Burger Stadium.

Barnes' 2nd TD Puts Bowie Back on Top

Max Barnes' second TD out of the Wildcat formation, has given Bowie a 13-10 lead with 4:24 remaining in the first half. In other district action, Lake Travis is not having any difficulty with Akins as the Cavs lead lead 49-0 with 2:32 left in the second quarter.

In a game that has a baseball-type score, Lago Vista is up on La Grange 6-2 with 4:00 left in the half.

Lack of Refs Cause Postponement

A lack of officials has caused the postponement of the Wimberley - Fredericksburg game per Colton McWilliams.

At House Park, Anderson has taken a 10-7 lead over unbeaten Bowie. In other 25-6A scores, Johnson is up on Del Valle 19-7 in the second quarter and Lake Travis is pasting Akins 42-0 halfway through the 2nd quarter.

In 26-6A, Vista Ridge is a touchdown better than Cedar Ridge 10-3 at half and Vandegrift is up 19 over Stony Point 28-10 at half.

Hutto is up 14-0 on Judson midway through the second stanza.

LASA Up 19-0 Early in 2nd

With 9:10 left in the first half, the Raptors are looking for their first varsity win as LASA is up on Eastside 19-0.

Weiss has doubled up New Braunfels 28-14 in the second, while Lake Travis is dominating Akins 35-0 in the second. Dripping Springs is looking to stay unbeaten and it looks like they will as they are whitewashing Austin High 28-0 in the second.

Pflugerville has rallied to take a 27-14 lead over Bastrop with 21 ticks remaining in the half.

Round Rock Routing Westwood at the Half; Bowie & Anderson Even Through 1

In a battle of unbeatens at Dragon Stadium, Round Rock is all over Westwood as the Dragons lead the Warriors 35-7 at the end of the first half.

At venerable House Park, Bowie and Anderson have played to a 7-7 score at the end of the first quarter. The Dawgs are at the Trojan 29 early in the second.

Fireworks at House Park

After Max Barnes put up Bowie 7-0 on a 12-yard keeper, Anderson's Cole Canaday returned the ensuing kickoff 97 yards to even the score at 7.

Bowie is looking to stay unbeaten with a win, whi9le Anderson is 2-1.

Rouse Pulls Within 7

After trailing Liberty Hill 14-0, Rouse has scored and now trail the Panthers 14-7.

In other action, Hays and MacArthur are knotted at 7, while Bastrop and Pflugerville are even at 14 late in the first quarter. Manor New Tech is looking to stay unbeaten and they are leading SA YMLA 8-7.

Round Rock has scored again and the Dragons now lead Westwood 21-0 with 1:05 left in the first. Vandegrift is up 14-10 over Stony Point.

Lake Travis is up on Akins 7-0 in the first.

Wimberley - Fredericksburg Delayed

Per Colton McWilliams of the Wimberley View, the Fredericksburg - Wimberley game is currently in a delay due to a shortage of referees. Not something you see everyday.

Vandegrift, Bastrop, Round Rock Jump to Early Leads

Bastrop quarterback Seth Mouser marched the Bears 63 yards in 4 plays as he connected with Reagan Nielsen for an 11-yard scoring pass as Bastrop leads Pflugerville 7-0 with 10:23 left in the first.

Per FLX ATX, Vandegrift has jumped out to 7-0 lead over unbeaten Stony Point as Brayden Buchanan threw a 44-yard TD pass.

In a clash of unbeatens, Round Rock leads Westwood 14-0 with 8:42 left in the opening stanza.

Injuries to Key LT Contributors

A week prior to the annual Battle of the Lakes, Lake Travis have been bitten by the injury bug. Per the Statesman's Jay Plotkin, LB Lewis Tavin is still out, while junior RB Nico Hamilton and senior RB are still nursing injuries and may not see action. These injuries are on top of Michigan State commit QB Bo Edmundson still has not seen game action this fall.

Bastrop - Pflugerville Face of at The Pfield

The Statesman's Thomas Jones will be reporting live from The Pfield as Pflugerville is hosting Bastrop in a battle of two schools that are looking for their initial triumph of the campaign.

Also in local 5A action, 2-1 Elgin is looking to to thrill their homecoming crowd as they take on winless Cedar Creek. 3-0 Hays venture to San Antonio to take on MacArthur. 2-1 Lehman is searching for its third win against the 2-1 Matadors of Seguin.

In a battle of 3-0 teams, Lockhart is at SA Davenport.

Familiar 5A Division 2 Foes Face Off

The past two seasons, Liberty Hill has ended Rouse’s season in the 5A D2 playoffs and tonight, the two squads meet in a pre-district tilt.

The game features two of the area’s offensive stalwarts according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. The magazine touts Liberty Hill RB Noah Long as the pre-season offensive player of the year in District 13. Long shredded Georgetown last week amassing 343 yards on the ground with 5 TDs. District

Rouse’s quarterback Mason Shorb earned the magazine’s District 12 offensive POY honor. Last week Shorb led the Raiders to their first win of the campaign in a 10-7 winner over Glenn.

District 12-5A Division 2 Opening Weekend

Thursday night saw District 12-5A D2 open its schedule with a pair of games.

2-1 Travis outlasted Navarro 27-21 in overtime, while McCallum evened its record at 2-2 by downing 1-3 Crocket 49-28.

Eastside and LASA will face off at Burger Stadium in a game that both squads view as winnable. LASA is seeking its first-ever varsity win, while Eastside is looking to snap its 31-game losing streak. LBJ and Northeast have postponed their game due to a staph infection outbreak at Northeast.

Leander Lone Area Unbeaten 11-5A D1 Squad

After tying the game late in the fourth quarter, Leander outlasted Del Rio 34-32 in triple overtime last week to become Centex’s lone unbeaten representative in District 11-5A Division 1.

Glenn and Georgetown suffered their first setbacks last week. Glenn fell to Rouse 10-7 in a defensive struggle of former district foes, while Liberty Hill’s slot offense ran past the Eagles 49-35. All district teams have the week off before opening league play next week.

Bulldawgs and Tigers Seeking to Stay Perfect

3-0 Bowie will be taking on 2-1 Anderson in a rivalry that took a two-year break as the Trojans participated in Class 5A.

The Bulldawgs routed Del Valle 64-0 last week to open district play, while Anderson suffered its first loss in heart-breaking fashion 21-20 to Austin High as the Maroons earned their first victory on a game-winning field goal at time expired.

The Maroons will look to repeat defeating an unbeaten squad when they face off against 2-0 Dripping Springs. The Tigers are making their 6A district debut as they were off last week.

Lake Travis looks to stay unbeaten in the district as the Cavaliers host 0-3 Akins, while either Johnson or Del Valle will earn is first victory after 0-3 starts.

District 25 6A Opens Play – Manor, Stony Point, Round Rock and Westwood Unbeaten

Last week it was the District 26-6A opening weekend, now it is 25-6A’s turn as Manor’s 45-14 win over McNeil kept the Mustangs undefeated at 4-0.

In a rivalry that goes back to 1981, Round Rock and Westwood look to remain unbeaten. Round Rock has opened 3-0 for its second straight season, while the Warriors have started 3-0 for the first time since starting 8-0 in 2012.

Stony Point will look to keep its record unblemished as the 3-0 Tigers will take on perennial power Vandegrfit, who has won a pair of games after a season-opening loss.

Stony Point boasts a pair of Power 5 offensive commits, RB Cam Cook, who has pledged to TCU. On the outside, Braylon James has committed to take his receiving talents to Notre Dame. The Vipers counter with Baylor’s baseball recruit, Brayden Buchanan.

Vista Ridge and Cedar Ridge will face off at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
