Week six of Austin-area high school games ramps up Friday as District 25-6A foes Manor and Vandegrift vie to see who stays atop the league standings. Rivals Round Rock and Stony Point battle as well as top Class 2A area teams Flatonia and Thorndale play. Childress' Pick May Do It

Colby Childress' interception has given Glenn the ball back near midfield as the Grizzlies are looking to run out the clock while they lead Leander 20-14 with less than 4 minutes remaining.

Mason Cochran has scored once again for Round Rock to give the Dragons a 32-14 lead over Stony Point, but SP's Jayden Birdow returned the ensuing extra point attempt for 2 points as with 1:21 remaining in the tussle.

Don Juan's 2nd FG Extends Lead

Armando DonJuan's second field goal of the night, a 31-yarder, extends Glenn's lead to 20-14 over Leander with just under 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Vandegrift has tacked on another score as Cruz Carrasquillo recovers a blocked punt for 6 to give the Vipers a 34-6 lead with 6:24 remaining in the contest.

Cochran is at it Again

For the 4th time, Round Rock's Mason Cochran has used his legs to score to extend the Dragon lead to 26-14 with 11:24 remaining in the contest.

At the end of the third, Vandegrift looks like it will knock Manor from the unbeaten ranks as the Vipers lead 27-6 at the start of the 4th.

After not playing the last 2 weeks, Northeast is shutting out Travis 20-0 with 1:35 in the 3rd stanza.

Witt's 2nd TD Extends Vandegrift Lead

Alex Witt has scored for the second time as Vandegrift has stretched its lead to 27-6 with 1:47 in the 3rd quarter.

After stopping Glenn on downs, Leander wastes no time as Buckman hits Aiden Parkman as Leander has cut the Glenn lead to 17-14 with 1:28 in the 3rd.

Glenn Settles for FG

After marching deep into Leander territory, Glenn settled on a 22-yard field goal to push its lead to 17-7 over Leander in 11-5A DI action.

Meanwhile Dripping Springs is up on Johnson 28-7 at the half, while Anderson is up 31-7 over Akins.

LBJ is crushing McCallum 55-7 at the half.

Round Rock's Mason Cochran's 3rd scoring run - this from 20-yards out has given the Dragons a 20-14 lead over Stony Point with 8:57 left in the 3rd.

Private School Action

In private school action, Regents is pouring it on Victoria St. Joseph 44-0. Phil Dawson's Hyde Park Panthers are up on SA St. Anthony 37-0 at the half.

Weiss has taken a 14-7 lead over Temple as Jax Brown hit Jerin Brown on a 27-yard scoring strike.

A&M Consolidated has cut the Cedar Park lead to 3 in the third quarter to make it a 10-7 contest.

Tivy has scored 14 unanswered and leads Bastrop 14-13 in the third.

Acosta Extends Westlake Lead

Nate Acosta's 23-yard jaunt to paydirt has given Westlake a 31-7 lead over Del Valle with 7:39 remaining in the opening half.

In other District 26-6A action, Anderson is shutting out Akins 24-0.

LBJ responded to McCallum's long drive with a quick score of its own as Gharion Hawthorne scores his second TD of the night - a 49-yarder. Hawthorne has carried twice for 99 yards and 2 TDs. .

Elgin Rallies; Northeast Surprising Travis

Elgin has rallied to take a 7-3 lead over Belton at the half in an District 11-5A DII game

Northeast is leading Travis 13-0 with 3:35 before half.

McCallum's QB, David Houston calls his own number from 4-yards out as McCallum caps a 10-olay 75-yard drive to cut the LBJ lead to 26-7 with 10:51 in the second.

Grizzlies Lead 14-7 at Half; Vipers over Mustangs 10-6 at Intermission

After scoring a pair of TDs on its opening 2 drives, Glenn is outpacing Leander 14-7 at the half. Cam Burkman scored from short yardage after a Glenn fumble on their own side of the field.

Westlake leads Del Valle 10-7, while Anderson is up 10-0 over Akins.

In 25-6A, Round Rock's Mason Cochran has scored again on the ground, this time from 37 yards out as the DDragons are tied with Stony Point 14-all with 1:23 before half.

Liberty Hill has broken its game open over Cedar Creek 42-3 in the second quarter while LBJ is all over McCallum 26-0, still in the opening 12 minutes.

Witt's Run Puts Vipers on Top

Vandegrift's Alex Witt has pushed the Vipers up 10-6 in the second quarter over Manor.

Stony Point has taken a 14-7 lead over Round Rock as Hausenfluck hits James for 75-yards to give the Tigers the lead in the second quarter.

Leander has cut the Glenn lead to 14-7, as the Lions capitalized on a Glenn fumble marching 48 yards to the score.

Scott Connects With Mukuba for 6

LBJ's sophomore QB Ali Scott connected with Fatu Mukuba for 60 yards and a score as the Jags now lead McCallum 12-0 with 7:14 remaining in the opening quarter.

In 26-6A, Anderson leads Akins 7-0 in the first. Also, Dripping Springs leads Johnson 7-0 in the first while Westlake is up on Del Valle 3-0.

In 25-6A competition, Stony Point and Round Rock are squared at 7 with 6:49 remaining in the half. Westwood is 7 better than Cedar Ridge 14-7 with 10::30 remaining before intermission.

Early 5-A DII Action

In early action in 5-A DII play, Liberty Hill has jumped out to a 14-3 lead over Cedar Creek. Bastrop is up on Kerrville Tivy 14-0.

In District 12, LBJ wasted no time as the Jags lead McCallum 6-0 after a 2-play scoring drive after an unsuccessful McCallum onside kick to start the game. Therion Gary's 47-yard dash set up Sedrick Alexander's 4-yard burst just 30 seconds into the tilt.

Cochran Sprint Puts Dragons Up

Dual-purpose QB Mason Cochran's 44-yard jaunt around right end as put Round Rock up 7-0 in its district matchup against city foe, Stony Point.

In other District 25-6A action, McNeil is up 9-0 on Vista Ridge while Manor is till up on Vandegrift 6-3.

Early Scores Coming In

In first quarter action, McNeil is up 3-0 facing Vista Ridge. Hyde Park is looking to stay unbeaten as the Panthers are up 9-0 on SA St. Anthony.

Belton is up 7-0 on Elgin and Glenn has raced out to a 14-0 lead over Leander. DJ Dugar reached paydirt from 42 yards out on the Grizzlies 2nd possession.

Vipers Cut Lead in Half

In a feature game of the night, Vandegrift has responded to the opening Manor touchdown with a field goal of its own and the Mustangs still lead the Vipers 6-3 with 7:50 remaining in the first quarter.

The winner of the game will move to 2-0 and will be on top of the district standings, tied with Round Rock, assuming the Dragons prevail over Stony Point.

Manor Strikes First

4-0 Manor has struck first at home against always tough Vandegrift taken its opening possession in for a touchdown. The Mustangs 6, Vandegrift 0 with 9:22 remaining in the opening stanza.

Jaquars, Knights Square Off in Battle of District Unbeatens

Nelson Field will be the site of the battle of 12-5A DII unbeatens as LBJ hosts McCallum.

The 4A-D1 runner-up LBJ will be playing its first game since September 9, when the Jags lost to Dallas Parish Episcopal 44-21, McCallum opened district play with a 49-28 victory over Crocket on September 15.

3-1 Travis looks to continue its surprising start as they will tackle Northeast at Burger Stadium.

In other 5A DII matchups, Liberty Hill will look to move to 2-0 district play as they travel to Bastrop to take on Cedar Creek in a District 13.

The Panthers, 2021 5A-DII runners up feature 2 of the area’s top 5 running backs in Noah Long and Joe Pitchford. Long has 903 yards and a dozen scores while Pitchford has chipped in 771 yards and 6 scores.

A consequential contest will take place as 3-1 SA Veteran’s Memorial kick off district play by hosting 4-1, 1-0 Lockhart in a battle of ground-oriented squads.

Bastrop visits Kerrville Tivy looking to n otch its first win under new coach Jake Griedl.

Playoff Implications in Leander

Tonight’s matchup of Leander and Glenn will go a long way in determining playoff qualifiers in district 11-5A Division 1.

Both schools are 3-1 on the season. Glenn ran past Hendrickson 38-28 last Friday, while Leander suffered its first defeat at the hands of 2021 5A Division 1 runner-up College Station 38-10.

Cedar Park looks to stay unbeaten in district play as they tackle A&M Consolidated. The 1-3, 1-0, Timberwolves erupted for 59 points in their 59 -17 win over East View.

East View is still looking for its initial win on the season but it will be a tall task as the Patriots host College Station at Birkelbach Field.

Georgetown blitzed Hendrickson 70-28 on Thursday evening in picking up its first district win.

Weiss Looks to Rebound

In the remaining 6A game tonight, Weiss (2-3, 0-1) will travel up I-35 to face perennial tough Temple. Temple, who many have projected winning district 12 sport a 3-2, 1-0 ledger.

Hutto has the week off before seeking its first district win as the Hippos face Harker Heights next week.

Area’s #1 and #2 6A Squads Look to Remain Unbeaten in 26-6A Games

#1 Westlake and #2 Dripping Springs look to remain unbeaten on the season in District 26-6A games tonight.

The 4-0 Chaps, riding the wave of a 44-game winning streak after last week’s 35-20 slugfest with district rival Lake Travis, will face 1-4 Del Valle. The Cardinals notched their first win of the season last Thursday with a 41-0 shutout over Akins.

Dripping Springs, rolled previously unbeaten Bowie 55-7 behind Baylor quarterback Austin Novosad. Novosad completed 21-of-24 passes for 215 yards and 4 TDs, while junior wide out Kyle Koch latched onto 9 passes for 91 yards and a score.

The Tigers, playing its first season in 6A will host another 6A newcomer 2-3 Johnson. The Jaguars bested Anderson 38-21 last Friday in winning its second district game.

Anderson will look to snap a 3-game winless streak as the Trojans host winless Akins.

Last night Bowie rebounded from last week’s loss with a 51-14 win over Austin High.

Lake Travis has the week off before travelling to Del Valle next Friday.

Vandegrift – Manor Highlight Week 6 Slate

Two of Austin’s top 6-A teams will meet under the Friday night lights of Manor as Vandegrift will tackle the Mustangs in a 6A District 25 tilt.

The Vipers, (3-1, 1-0) come into the contest with a 3-game winning streak after falling to Dripping Springs 23-20 on a game-ending field goal in the first week of the season. Vandegrift is ranked 3rd in the Statesman’s 6A rankings.

Baylor baseball commit, Brayden Buchanan is completing 66% of his passes, while amassing 12 TD throws without an interception. Miles Coleman is the favorite target with 28 catches for 506 yards and 5 TD Grabs

Undefeated Manor, ranted 5th by the Statesman, is led by senior running back Quinten Joyner. The Southern Cal pledge averages over 10 yards a carry with 654 yards on 62 totes wile finding paydirt 13 times. Quentin’s sophomore brother, Quintaelyn, has thrown for 821 yards and 7 scores.

In another 25-6A games 4-0 Round Rock looks to stay unbeaten as they take on 3-1 Stony Point at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. The game will feature a pair of the top rushers in the district as Stony Point’s Cameron Cook averages over 11 yards a carry in piling up 563 yards. The Dragos counter with dual-threat signal caller Miles Cochran. Cochran has rushed for 457 yards and nine scores while adding 510 yards via the airwaves.

Rounding out the 25-6A action, McNeil (2-2, 0-1) visits Vista Ridge (2-2, 1-0) at Gupton while Westwood (3-1, 0-1) hosts 1-3, 0-1 Cedar Ridge at Dragon Stadium.
