Live Blog: Shreveport City Council to discuss new rail projects at meeting

During the Shreveport City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 25 the council discussed and voted on various agenda items.

3:59 p.m. Councilman Boucher announces there will be another Public Safety Meeting in two weeks. Shreveport city council adjourns.

3:53 p.m. - Resolution 103: a resolution providing for canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the Special Election held in the City of Shreveport, State of Louisiana, on Saturday, April 29, 2023 and to promulgate the results passes with five votes and one recusal by Councilman Grayson Boucher.

3:51 p.m. - Resolution 101 authorizing a request to be made to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board, to seek public bids for an oil, gas and mineral lease involving the property located in District A and described herein and to execute the lease for certain mineral interests owned by the City of Shreveport; and to authorize the mayor to execute any and all documents related to the intent of this Resolution passes with six votes.

3:50 p.m. - Resolution 100 authorizing submission of the 2023 Annual Action Plan to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) passes with six votes.

3:49 p.m. - Resolution 99 authorizing the mayor to execute a cooperative purchasing agreement between the City of Shreveport and the City of Bossier passes with six votes.

3:48 p.m. - Resolution 98 granting a variance from certain provisions of Chapter 34 of the Code of Ordinances relative to flood hazard prevention passes with six votes.

3:47 p.m. - Resolution 95 dedicating the 500 Block of Sassafras Avenue in honor of Habakkuk “BayBay” Terrell passes with six votes.

3:46 p.m. - Resolution in support of and establishing a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District, a proposed public improvement district is postponed until July 26.

3:45 p.m. - The council votes on Tanner Yeldell to become the Assistant City Attorney. The appointment passes with six votes.

3:43 p.m. - The council votes on Dr. Michael Brannan to the MPC / Zoning Board of Appeals. The appointment passes with six votes.

3:32 p.m. - Public comments begin.

3:26 p.m. - The 500 Block of Sassafras Ave. will be dedicated in honor of Habkkuk "BayBay" Terrell for his achievements in the military and his contributions to the community as a mechanic and handyman, especially his service to elders.

3:11 p.m. - Executive Director at The Port of Shreveport-Bossier Eric England gave a PowerPoint presentation explaining updates at The Port and what they provide to both parishes.

3:06 p.m. - The council meeting begins with all council members present except for councilman Dr. Alan Jackson.
