The Indianapolis Colts visit the Houston Texans in an NFL Week 1 matchup. The Colts come with playoff hopes but a bad recent history in season openers. The Texans have a new coach, a second-year quarterback and low expectations.

Matt Ryan is the Colts' new quarterback, but they will rely on NFL leading rusher Jonathan Taylor. The Colts don't have All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back).

The Indianapolis Colts have broken their 8-year Week 1 losing streak, but ...

After struggling for most of three quarters, the Colts rally from 17-points down in the fourth to extend the game to overtime.

Jonathan Taylor carries 31 times for 161 yards a touchdown. Matt Ryan completes 32-of-50 passes for 332 yards, including a touchdown to Michael Pittman Jr. (9 catches, 121 yards). Kwity Paye has 2 sacks in overtime.

The Colts have 7 penalties for 89 yards, including pass interference calls that lead to Houston scores, a running into the punter and two kickoffs going out of bounds.

Davis Mills completes 23-of-37 passes for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns to O.J. Howard.

Rodrigo Blankenship misses wide right from 42 yards with 1:57 remaining in overtime.

During the drive, Matt Ryan fumbles for the fourth time, but he falls on it.

Kwity Paye sacks Davis Mills twice, forcing a punt. Rodrigo Blankenship's kickoff went out of bounds -- again -- so the Texans start from their 40.

Colts punt the ball rather than try a 4th-and-1 play in their own territory. Texans get the ball with 11 seconds left and take a knee.

Colts score 17 in the fourth quarter after trailing 20-3. Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor with the touchdowns.

Nyheim Hines fumbled the punt return, but Isaiah Rodgers recovers. Houston's drive goes 3-and-out, and they punt. Rodrigo Blankenship's kickoff went out of bounds, so the Texans start from their 40.

End third quarter: Texans lead 20-3 and are driving

Houston is at the Indianapolis 36-yard line. Colts penalties for running into the Houston punter and pass interference help the Texans on the drive.

Matt Haack punts 70 yards and the Colts down it at the Houston 1. This comes shortly after Matt Ryan fumbles another snap.

O.J. Howard, who was picked up by the Texans last week, gets another touchdown on a 22-yard catch. The drive is helped on a personal foul by Colts defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue. Texans 20, Colts 3

Matt Ryan fails to grab the snap, and the Houston Texans recover at their 42. The Colts have 3 points on 5 trips into Texans territory.

9:47 left 3Q: Colts change their left tackle

Rookie Bernhard Raimann, who appeared in the first half, takes over at left tackle for Matt Pryor. There were no immediate reports of an injury to Pryor.

12:17 left 3Q: Texans extend their lead on the Colts

Trickeration -- the ol' feal flicker -- on Houston's first play of the second half results in a 42-yard Davis Mills-to-Bradin Cooks completion.

Halftime: Texans lead Colts 10-3

The Colts control the action but don't have much to show for it. They fail on downs inside the Houston 5-yard line, Matt Ryan throws an interception, and a pass interference call costs the Colts big on a Houston scoring drive.

Ryan is 14-of-19 for 141 yards. Micheal Pittman Jr. has 6 catches for 80 yards. Jonathan Taylor has 14 carries for 68 yards.

The Colts drive into Houston territory late in the first half, but Jerry Hughes, who earlier had an interception, beats Braden Smith for a strip sack of Ryan. Smith recovers. Smith also commits a false start penalty and the Colts eventually punt.

The Indianapolis defense has not gotten to Houston quarterback Davis Mills, who is 10-of-16 for 98 yards and a touchdown. The Texans have done little running the ball.

One play earlier, the first penalty of the game is pass interference against Kenny Moore II for 33 yards.

Former Colts defensive lineman Jerry Hughes snags a Matt Ryan screen and returns it to the Texans 42. The Colts had driven inside the Houston 30. Colts have one turnover and have been stopped on downs near the end zone. Jonathan Taylor has 68 rushing yards.

Ka'imi Fairbarin hits a 45-yard field goal. Houston, which had 13 yards in the first quarter, gains 69 yards on this drive. Colts, 3, Texans 3

14:10 left 2Q: Colts stopped on downs

Hyheim Hines takes the snap from the 2 and loses 2 yards on 4th down. Rookie receiver Alec Pierce dropped a touchdown on his first target on a 2nd-down play. Colts keep a 3-0 lead.

Jonathan Taylor is up to 46 yards on 11 carries. Matt Ryan is 6-of-8 for 64 yards. The Colts have 2nd down at the Houston 11. The Texans have not gained a first down and 13 total yards.
