LIVE: Colts vs Texans scores, highlights and more from NFL Week 1
The Indianapolis Colts visit the Houston Texans in an NFL Week 1 matchup. The Colts come with playoff hopes but a bad recent history in season openers. The Texans have a new coach, a second-year quarterback and low expectations.
Matt Ryan is the Colts' new quarterback, but they will rely on NFL leading rusher Jonathan Taylor. The Colts don't have All-Pro linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back).

Nobody deserves to win this game. Only team worse than Texans was Colts. Only team dumber than Colts was Texans.#columncoming

The Colts tied the Texans, 20-20, to start 0-0-1.

Rodrigo Blankenship misses wide right from 42 yards with 1:57 remaining in overtime.

Rodrigo Blankenship misses the 42-yard game-winning attempt. The Colts just can't overcome certain weaknesses today. And the weaknesses have been obvious for a long time.
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 11, 2022
During the drive, Matt Ryan fumbles for the fourth time, but he falls on it.
Matt Ryan hits Parris Campbell on third down to earn a first down in Houston territory.
8:27 left in overtime: Colts get the ball at their 31
Kwity Paye sacks Davis Mills twice, forcing a punt. Rodrigo Blankenship's kickoff went out of bounds -- again -- so the Texans start from their 40.
Kwity Paye again. Two sacks in three plays in OT.
Essentially made up for Blankenship's mistake.— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) September 11, 2022
Overtime: Colts 20, Texans 20
Colts punt the ball rather than try a 4th-and-1 play in their own territory. Texans get the ball with 11 seconds left and take a knee.
Colts score 17 in the fourth quarter after trailing 20-3. Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor with the touchdowns.
We're headed to overtime.
As bad as it looked for 3.5 quarters, the Colts have a chance to win this game.— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) September 11, 2022

4:29 left 4Q: Colts have a chance to tie the Texans
The Colts force a punt and will begin from their 20-yard line, down 20-13.
Colts defense gets a stop - Texans targeted Gilmore on third down after Bradley brought the house - and Indianapolis has a chance, despite everything else that happened in this game, to tie this up.

7:42 left 4Q: Jonathan Taylor scores Colts' first touchdown of season

9:49 left 4Q: Colts force a turnover in Texans territory
The Colts get their first sack, and it's huge. E.J. Speed knocks the ball from Davis Mills, and DeForest Buckner recovers at Houston's 20.
E.J. Speed just came through unblocked and crushed Davis Mills to force a turnover. A young QB didn't read it, and the Colts got aggressive and found a break.
Now, can this offense finally take advantage? Huge drive down 14 with 9:49 left.— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 11, 2022
10:42 left 4Q: Rodrigo Blankenship adds a field goal, Colts trail 20-6

The Colts scored a field goal, so that's immense progress. 20-6 Texans, 10:44 left.
I gave the Colts too much credit there on that last tweet.— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 11, 2022
End third quarter: Texans lead 20-3 and are driving
Houston is at the Indianapolis 36-yard line. Colts penalties for running into the Houston punter and pass interference help the Texans on the drive.

An absolutely catastrophic performance.
Huge coverage bust leads to an easy touchdown for the Texans, who will go up 20-3 with the extra point.
Made a handful of big changes this offseason, and it's the same result as it was in Jacksonville.— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) September 11, 2022
8:56 left 3Q: Matt Ryan loses a fumble
Matt Ryan fails to grab the snap, and the Houston Texans recover at their 42. The Colts have 3 points on 5 trips into Texans territory.

Texans open the second half with a flea flicker, and the Colts fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Halftime: Texans lead Colts 10-3
The Colts control the action but don't have much to show for it. They fail on downs inside the Houston 5-yard line, Matt Ryan throws an interception, and a pass interference call costs the Colts big on a Houston scoring drive.
Ryan is 14-of-19 for 141 yards. Micheal Pittman Jr. has 6 catches for 80 yards. Jonathan Taylor has 14 carries for 68 yards.
The Colts drive into Houston territory late in the first half, but Jerry Hughes, who earlier had an interception, beats Braden Smith for a strip sack of Ryan. Smith recovers. Smith also commits a false start penalty and the Colts eventually punt.
The Indianapolis defense has not gotten to Houston quarterback Davis Mills, who is 10-of-16 for 98 yards and a touchdown. The Texans have done little running the ball.
It's 2022, and Jerry Hughes is kicking the Colts' ass.
— Gregg Doyel (@GreggDoyelStar) September 11, 2022
Braden Smith is not having a good day on the right side.

One play earlier, the first penalty of the game is pass interference against Kenny Moore II for 33 yards.
That's a ticky tack call on the PI, but then Mills fires a strike to O.J. Howard.
Awful performance by the Colts in this first half.— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) September 11, 2022
4:26 left 2Q: Matt Ryan intercepted, makes tackle
Former Colts defensive lineman Jerry Hughes snags a Matt Ryan screen and returns it to the Texans 42. The Colts had driven inside the Houston 30. Colts have one turnover and have been stopped on downs near the end zone. Jonathan Taylor has 68 rushing yards.
THAT WAS HUGHE 🤯 @Iam_jerryhughes

The Colts look like a better team than the Texans, but they are botching situations so far. New offense, new quarterback. But that's essentially two turnovers on promising drives already.
— Nate Atkins (@NateAtkins_) September 11, 2022
7:50 left 2Q: Texans tie Colts with a field goal
Ka'imi Fairbarin hits a 45-yard field goal. Houston, which had 13 yards in the first quarter, gains 69 yards on this drive. Colts, 3, Texans 3
The Colts tightened up late on that drive with tight coverage from Stephon Gilmore and Kenny Moore II. Still waiting on the pass rush to arrive, but those two have been good.

Hyheim Hines takes the snap from the 2 and loses 2 yards on 4th down. Rookie receiver Alec Pierce dropped a touchdown on his first target on a 2nd-down play. Colts keep a 3-0 lead.

Matt Ryan looks good. Taylor and Hines look great. But a drop and a cutesy call leave the Colts scoreless on that drive.
— Gregg Doyel (@GreggDoyelStar) September 11, 2022
4th-and-goal, Colts go direct snap, with a straight zone read for Hines.
Greenard feinted toward Taylor, then closed down hard. Took away both options on the read by himself.— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) September 11, 2022
End 1Q: Colts are goal-to-go
Jonathan Taylor is up to 46 yards on 11 carries. Matt Ryan is 6-of-8 for 64 yards. The Colts have 2nd down at the Houston 11. The Texans have not gained a first down and 13 total yards.
