Freddy Peralta dominates over seven innings as the Brewers edge the Braves in their return home

It took some time, but Freddy Peralta is finally dialed in.

The right-hander dominated the Atlanta Braves over seven innings, striking out 10 and not allowing a runner past second base in laying the groundwork for a 1-0 Milwaukee Brewers victory at American Family Field on Monday night. Along the way, he recorded his 500th strikeout.

The Brewers registered their second shutout of the season with Devin Williams and Josh Hader slamming the door behind him as the trio combined to allow only a pair of singles.

Hunter Renfroe's sixth-inning double resulted in the game's only run, as he scored two batters later on a wild pitch by Ian Anderson.

Playing under an open roof for the first time this season at home, the Brewers were unable to manage much in the way of offense against the right-handed Anderson.

Through the first five innings they collected three singles – two by Luis Urías, who has reached base in all 12 games since being reinstated from the injured list – and a pair of walks, but they never truly threatened.

The closest they came was in the first when they loaded the bases with two outs, but Omar Narváez popped out on Anderson's first pitch.

The good news was Peralta was even better.

Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta struck out 10 Braves batters and didn't allow a runner past second base in seven innings Monday night at American Family Field.

After allowing a single and a walk in a 21-pitch first inning, he set down 19 of the final 20 batters he faced. Marcell Ozuna, who singled in the fourth, was the only Atlanta batter to reach base during that stretch.

After Milwaukee manufactured the game's first run in the sixth on a Renfroe double, Narváez groundout and Anderson wild pitch, Peralta took the mound in the seventh for the first time in 2022.

He opened by freezing Ozuna, recording his 500th strikeout and season-high ninth of the game, and then got Travis d'Arnaud looking to reach double digits for the sixth time in his career and first time since last June 22 at Arizona (10 in six innings).

Ozzie Albies flied out to the base of the wall in right to end the Braves' seventh, and Peralta (3-1) walked off the mound to a standing ovation. His 102-pitch outing was his longest since he threw 109 last June 4 against Arizona (7⅓ innings).

Over his last two starts, Peralta has allowed six hits, one run and one walk while striking out 18 over 12⅔ innings.

Williams continued his recent resurgence by striking out the side in the eighth, and Hader followed suit to register his 14th save of the season in his 14th appearance, extending his major-league record.
