Corbin Burnes, offense able to counteract huge night by Mike Trout in Brewers victory
The strikeout stuff isn't quite there yet for Corbin Burnes.
But everything else looked pretty good for the right-hander on Saturday night, as he threw six solid innings against a dangerous Los Angeles Angels lineup to help lead the way to a 7-5 victory at American Family Field.
Burnes rode a balanced offensive performance behind him while the Brewers made the most of five hits, five walks and a hit batter by scoring three times in the third and four times in the fifth to put it out of reach.

There were also some fireworks, as manager Craig Counsell and shortstop Willy Adames were ejected in succession in the sixth inning by home-plate umpire Adam Beck after a timeout/pitch clock dispute.
Mike Trout had a two-homer game in driving in all five runs for the Angels.
His two-out, ninth-inning shot forced the Brewers to utilize Devin Williams to close it out and he was able to do so after being greeted by a Shohei Ohtani single.
Holding a 3-1 lead, Milwaukee chased Angels starter Reid Detmers from the game in the fifth as it sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four more times.
A bases-loaded walk drawn by William Contreras made it 4-1 and Andrew Wantz took over for Wantz at that point, leading to an interesting matchup with pinch-hitter Jesse Winker.
It was Wantz who plunked Winker last June when Winker was with Seattle, sparking a benches-clearing brawl in Anaheim. Winker, in the midst of a 2-for-25 slump, got the best of Wantz this time by lining a two-run single to left.
Wantz next hit Brian Anderson to load the bases then with two outs Victor Caratini walked to force in another run and make it 7-1.
Burnes (3-1) completed six innings for just the second time in six starts this season, allowing five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 91 pitches. It was his second start since suffering a pectoral strain.
There were fireworks in the bottom of the frame when with two outs, Adames was assessed a strike by Beck after not being granted timeout on a Jaime Barria pitch.
Adames argued with Beck, leading Counsell to emerge from the dugout. He was ejected after a heated discussion, then Adames struck out swinging and was ejected as well – the first of his career.
Former Angels reliever Elvis Peguero took over the Burnes and after throwing a 1-2-3 seventh allowed a leadoff single followed by a booming homer to center by Trout.
The first round batters reached against Peguero, leading to Peter Strzelecki.
He responded with two strikeouts and a flyout, limiting the damage to the two runs.
Bryse Wilson was unable to finish the game off as Trout hit his second two-run homer in the ninth – this one with two outs – leaving interim manager Pat Murphy to have to utilize Williams to finish up.
Detmers, the second of three straight lefty starters for the Angels, dazzled the Brewers to the tune of five strikeouts in the first two innings.
A leadoff walk drawn by Caratini gave Milwaukee its first baserunner in the third, and an Owen Miller double and Joey Wiemer groundout gave the Brewers their first run.
Two batters later, Adames singled in Miller with two outs. And after Adames advanced to second on a passed ball, Contreras doubled him in to make it 3-0.
Burnes needed 23 pitches to keep the Angels off the board in the first inning but did so, stranding a pair of baserunners after they opened with a pair of singles.
He struck out five over the next three innings – including the side in the fourth, before the Angels broke up the shutout on a Trout sacrifice fly in the fifth. The damage could have been worse had it not been for a nice running catch in the gap by Christian Yelich.
