Losing streak stretches to five as Brewers suffer their worst defeat of the season

There's been very little home cooking for the Milwaukee Brewers between consecutive three-city road trips.

Foiled again by an impotent offensive performance, they were shut out for the third time in their last five games at American Family Field, this time by a score of 10-0 at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Starter Adrian Houser was also off, as he allowed three home runs in six innings – equaling his total for 51 ⅓ innings coming into Wednesday night – for a Brewers team that has lost a season-high five straight games.

The 10-run loss was also a season worst, surpassing Milwaukee's 9-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on April 9.

Houser was actually sharp in the first two innings, striking out three, before things took a turn.

The trouble began with a one-out walk in the third and was compounded then No. 9 hitter Bryson Stott cracked a homer to right-center.

Kyle Schwarber followed with a single and Rhys Hoskins homered to right-center as well, giving Philadelphia a 4-0 lead.

Odúbel Herrera's leadoff homer in the fifth made it a 5-0 game.

Houser surrendered seven hits, five runs and a walk with five strikeouts over 96 pitches.

Philadelphia scored four runs on five hits in the ninth against Luke Barker, with Bryce Harper's three-run homer the finishing touch.

Not even the reinstatement of Willy Adames from the injured list after a 20-game absence or the move of Christian Yelich into the leadoff spot could awaken Milwaukee's offense from its recent doldrums.

The Brewers collected four singles in eight innings against right-hander Aaron Nola and managed to advance only one into scoring position -- Yelich, when he singled and then stole second in the sixth.

The Phillies retired 12 straight Brewers batters and 14 of the final 15.

Milwaukee has scored a total of six runs during its five-game losing streak, with four of those coming in a 6-4, 10-inning loss Sunday to San Diego.

It is 1-5 on its current homestand, with Corbin Burnes starting Thursday's finale at 1:10 p.m.
